Title: Saga's first sail 2015
Post by: HeaveToo on April 30, 2015, 03:01:34 PM
I managed to leave the slip yesterday.  I finally got the outboard spitting water right and I managed to stop the leak on my new water tank.

So it turns out that the leak was probably caused by the old inlet hose.  I replaced it...no leak.  Go Figure!

I left the slip and found an amazing day.  There was 10 knots out of the South East.  It was beautiful and perfect sailing.  I was seeing 4 knots on the GPS at times.  Then, after going upwind for a while I launched my asymmetrical spinnaker for the first time.

I managed to get up to 4 knots off of the wind with the asymmetrical spinnaker up.  I am thinking that I was in a puff but I didn't see gusts much more than 12 knots.  The sail is slightly undersized and I found it to be quite manageable, even single handed.

Here is a pic of the new/used asymmetrical spinnaker.  It has been nicknamed Mr. Yuck because it is ugly!

Very cool and I know the ugly part of the sail.  I had a Precision 21 with an asymmetrical sail that the previous owner bought.  It was black and orange with a small patch of red in the middle.  Someone on the mooring nick named it the Halloween sail.  I will have to hunt a pic of it down so we can compare notes.  Enjoy the sailing days and fair winds.

Yes, that is ugly.  Did the color bleed through or was it made to be that color?
