Pardon if this has already been covered in another thread, but I have looked and didn't see this particular question answered....
I used the Wag Bag system with a 5 gallon bucket on our last cruise to the 10,000 Islands ( see http://ftp.ij.net/wctss/wctss/photos125.html (http://ftp.ij.net/wctss/wctss/photos125.html) ).
I really couldn't find a good place to put the orange 5 gallon bucket when not in use, though.
Thinking about the PETT toilet that folds up.. I'm sure it would fit out in the cockpit locker - folded up and stowed.
But will it fit on the floor in the cabin (SunCat) when set up? Can't find the width of the back legs set up anywhere.
Anyone use this set up?
Thanks,
Ron
There are also 3 Gal buckets (Home Depot/Lowes)
Yes Gus, But they're a bit low to work properly with the Wag Bags.
Ron
Ron,
I use one on my 23. it fits nicely between the v-berths. It's late, dark, and cold here now but I have it in my car and will measure it tomorrow.

hoddinr,
Used the Wag Bags with a regular square plastic bucket (approx. 3 gal) with home made wooden seat without problem. Not the most comfortable accommodation, but for the short time in use it works well enough.
Stored "used" Bags inside a large garbage bag placed in a small plastic garbage can that fit nicely down inside a cockpit locker out of the way.

Ordered mine from REI and it fits perfectly (fully assembled, not folded) under the folding companionway "privacy panel" on my 19, where the chemical potty used to go. Oh, happiness to be rid of the nasty sloshing chemicals and the job of dumping and cleaning.
A word to the wise: your wife or girlfriend will like this seat a LOT more than the fve gallon bucket.

Hi Frank,
Thank you for your interest in our products. Please see below the exact dimensions of our portable toilet. There aren't any holes to screw the legs to the floor. I suppose you could screw through the plastic though, however, the plastic might splinter and break. I have attached a picture of what exactly the toilet legs look like on the bottom for your consideration. Please let me know if you need further information.
Folded toilet:
19 inches long and 14 inches wide and 5 inches deep
Set up toilet:
13.5 inches high, off the ground.
The seat itself is 14 inches wide and 19 inches deep/long.
However, the way the legs are angled you need to add about 2 inches to the overall width and 2 inches to the overall length/depth, since the legs extend out a bit farther to give more stability.
Best,
Juliane Bergmann

And a picture in a 23. As you can see I made a chock to hold the front leg in place, the back legs wedged nicely with almost no clearance to the side on a 23. Don't remember what that dimension is exactly but think it is about 16.5" to the edge of the quarter round molding.

Just measured my opened PETT.
Distance between outside edges of back legs opened is 17.0" (side to side)
Distance between outer edges of back legs opened and front leg opened is 19 3/4". (fore and aft)
There is some flexibility in legs so you might get them is a slightly smaller space that measurements suggest.

Ron-
I bought the Ozark Trails model at Wal-Mart a few weeks back but I haven't used it yet. I used an emery board to file the plastic tabs which lock the folding legs in place down a little to make it easier to re-fold after use. It fits, folded, into the cockpit seat lockers. Unfolded, it fits in the cockpit footwell and in the cabin sole as well.

We used the same "seat" as discussed on our Suncat and Horizon Cat for 2-3 week cruises. I always folded the seat and stowed it as it was used for such a short amount of time. We kept the used bag in a plastic kitty litter container and always gave it a shot of fabreeze. I just bought a Seaward 23 and will stay with the wag bags and, since there is a dedicated space for a porta-potty, I should be able to keep everything assembled.
Some people use plastic trash bags and put in some "clumping" kitty litter - much cheaper
Thanks very much for all the great information!
You're a dedicated LOT! Even going out in the cold to measure the exact size of the thing. Impressed.
Looks like I'm going to get one for Nomad, my SunCat 17. It seems it will fit down below when needed, and stow in the cockpit locker when folded up and not in use.
Now my orange 5 gallon bucket can be used around my backyard for something.
Ron
We're a dedicated lot, all right. Lot of what...well- y'all can decide that.
Just one big happy family of Compac-o-nauts!
My PETT toilet arrived today (2 day shipping free with Amazon Prime). It was only $59 (on sale), so I couldn't put it off.
Seems really well built, and I'm pretty sure it will work in the cabin, and stow in the cockpit.
It opens up really well, but the tabs on one back leg are really hard to close, so it may get a little filing down.
Thanks for everyone's contributions!
Ron
Set up the PETT toilet in the cabin of NOMAD yesterday. It's a BIG toilet, and takes up plenty of space on the cabin floor, but facing forward there is room for the back legs to open up in locked position. For some reason I thought I would prefer facing aft, toward the hatch, but now that I've tried it, I guess it doesn't matter.
It does stow in the cockpit locker, when folded up, and takes up less space, and is less unsightly, on one of the bunks than a 5 gallon bucket.

Sharing some pictures for posterity. I got a Cleanwaste toilet this week and set it up inside my 2010 SunCat. The toilet, when assembled/opened, does not fit under the companionway overhang like a porta potti would (less ideal for guests and little kids), but its pros should far outweigh that. While my cushions aren't installed at the moment, I do believe it would fit assembled in the aft corner of the cushions. In the pictures you'll see that the only way it fits in the cabin without opening up the companionway step is facing forward. I'm 5'11" and wear size 11.5 sneakers, for reference in the pics-- shoes barely fit, and head touches ceiling (though if we're being honest, I wouldn't be sitting up quite so tall if I were using it). It fits in the cockpit much better. For storage, in briefcase form, it fits just about everywhere, including with the battery (though I'd have to re-route the wiring around the mast so the doorway closes). Also, I ordered separately a "bottom cover" for the briefcase, to protect the mesh bag and netting, which comes today and shouldn't add too much width. I suspect that would mean it no longer fit in the anchor locker area, but I'm not planning to keep it there anyways. I've seen some nice cubbies and storage units on this forum added to the walls, but I think I'll buy a MOLLE board or similar "french cleat" type system (not that, but if you're familiar with the latter you're familiar with the former) and hang it there (better than velcro). For now, it'll just live in briefcase form tucked into the back under the overhang, and on the floor for trailering. I haven't bought a "bucket for the bags" yet, but will get some small (3 gal? square?) one with a gamma screw-on seal that will fit somewhere convenient, perhaps in the original porta potti space. All tbd. Anyways, here's the pics... I'll do multiple posts.
More pics... (thankful to https://bulkresizephotos.com/ (https://bulkresizephotos.com/) for letting me do this easily)
I tried putting the toilet facing forward, where the porta potti would go, but it's too wide. Then, when shifting it sideways off the containment rails, the legs started to splay due to the height difference between rear and front, to the point I stood up quickly so they wouldn't break. All 3 legs must be at the same height. Speaking of legs, and using this off the boat camping etc., the lid goes under the back legs to stabilize them on soft ground so you don't sink in (their idea, not mine).
Removing the companionway gains you some space, does have a bit of a height difference, does put the rear legs on the unsupported fiberglass bilge cover (I don't recommend it), and still doesn't get your head out of the hatch; a definite pass on that one.
The toilet won't fit facing aft with enough room for your feet unless you remove the companionway riser/step. This doesn't gain you much except a view. Here's the headroom facing that way, which is the same as if you are facing forward. That's about as tall as I could sit, though again, not how you'd likely be sitting if using.
Not even close to fitting under the companionway for storage. Does fit under the seat cushion storage area, though that gets tricky when lifting the cushions out of the way first. Reminder: this does not yet have the optional (extra $) "bottom lid" on it, which may or may not add to the thickness of the briefcase.
Tons of room under cockpit seats, including rotated vertically and shoved aside if you just want to have one on board but not take up a central storage place. Reminder: this does not yet have the optional (extra $) "bottom lid" on it, which may or may not add to the thickness of the briefcase.
And lastly, set up in the cockpit area facing aft and forward (tiller in way facing forward if underway; though I don't think I'd want to be underway while using a toilet, ha). Good place to move it for nighttime use, since if trying to use down below while your partner is there, well, that's a whole new level of love I'm not sure I want to reach with my wife!
Here are two links for product videos. There are a lot of negative reviews out there saying the legs are hard to put down-- they're not, you just need to know how to do it. And if you do have arthritis etc, a simple press w/ a screwdriver or set of needlenose would make it instant close.

I purchased 100 "wag bags" from an Ebay store some years ago for $50. Each came with a large bag containing a gelling agent, a smaller zip lock bag for after use, toilet paper, and a wet wipe. at $.50 a piece, it was much cheaper than buying them from Walmart or a sporting goods/camping outlet.

As did I after Carl made me aware of the opportunity. I still have over half of them left. BTW, I use a three gallon bucket with a Gamma Seal lid to store the used " wag bags" on a cruise. Clean, no odor while on the cruise, and just dump the bucket in the marina dumpster when I return. So much better than wet portable toilets or even a holding tank in my opinion.
