Title: First sail
Post by: cw021382 on January 30, 2015, 03:48:43 PM
I finally got the 23 out for a sail this week.  We had some unseasonably warm weather here in mid Mo.  It was almost 70 on Wed.  I got to try her out in ghosting condtions on Tue. evening.  I stayed on a mooring Tue. night, and sailed all day Wed.  It was blowing 15-20 all day gusting to 30.  I had a particularly nice 2 hour downwind sail running wing and wing with a poled out genoa.  I am really glad I chose a Compac 23, or rather that she choose me.  The only thing I dislike about the boat is the time it takes to setup and tear down.

Sounds like you had a nice trip.

The 23 is a pain to set up and tear down.  I plan to slip mine for the season because of this.

My Compac 23 is getting a cruiser makeover.  When she is done I will be set for long Chesapeake Bay cruises.  10 days or so, I am hoping.

Where are your cruising grounds?

Mainly cruise Stockton Lake in Mo. and Northern Lake Michigan in the summer.  However, with a trailer sailor the options are unlimited.  Been thinking about doing some Missouri river and Mississippi river cruises this fall after CLR.  Not a lot of sailing on the rivers, but some great scenery.  The 23 is a perfect size for trailer sailing, and mine will be cat rigged at some point.  I am setting her up for long cruises too.

Chris:
Congrats on the maiden voyage! Does she have a name?
I agree about the setup time...that's why I stay on a mooring all summer and in a marina in the fall. Mooring is free :). The slip is nominal. But I will be trying to figure ways to streamline the breakdown and setup time as I too, will be at CLR 2015. Sounds like it's gonna be a well attended event with some interesting racing.
