Title: Question Re Upgrading to CP16/3
Post by: mikemak on August 20, 2004, 12:42:50 PM
Does anyone know where I can find any written material that illustrates the differences between the 16/2 and 16/3 versions.  I am considering upgrading my boat but don't know where to find any reference materials.  I am on the southern California coast and don't see much of these boats, so trying to find a 16/3 out here is probably highly unlikely.

Hey, which brings up another topic.......any interest out there in starting a registry of our boats.....what say you Cap'tn K?????

Regards, Mike.

Oh - thats a good idea, Mike!

I'll look into doing that. If I figure out a way to do it, you want to be in charge? :D

A registry of ComPac boats is a neat idea. My 16/3 had two owners prior to my buying it a year and a half ago. It started its sailing career on Lake Nockamixon, it moved to a New Jersey lake for several years then I brought it back to PA where it got its original state registration number back.

I see some CP's with sail numbers but I never heard of an official registry or association? Was there one out there? Is there one out there?

My CP16 trailer came with load range B new tires. I wonder how many folks have upgraded to load range C, a much better situation. Luckily I don't do much trailering as I keep the boat in the water, but I am considering upgrading to load rang C, which seem not too common in marine stores.

Gil, you might want to check out Eastern Marine in Newark Del., (not toooo far from you).  I just bought a trailer there along with misc. trailer parts.  they had a complete range of tires in stock, (including load "C's").

I am afraid that since I bought my boat used I don't know what version it is 16/1, 16/2 or 16/3.
It's about an '87 so that might be of some help. If you'd like to see it to compare or can describe some specific characteristics of the revisions I'd be happy to send pic's or have you out on it. I am also in Southern California (Carlsbad to be specific) and sail out of Oceanside generally.

My 90 is a 16/3.    So your 16 is likely at least a 2 if not a 3.  I think having a bowsprit is at least a 2. Jib sheeting on cockpit coming rather than the coach roof may be a 3.

My 16III (1994) does include tracks for the jib sheet on the comings, a headliner in the cabin, and lifelines (all new additions to the III, I believe).
