is 5/16 stasetx a good choice for main halyard?

Yes, .....well maybe.:)  Are you planning to do an eyesplice with a halyard shackle?   I bought some StasetX with the intention of making a spin halyard and after three failed attempts to do the eyesplice I went back to regular staset which I have always been able to do the eyesplice in.  I like the fact that the X is very low stretch but can't do the eyesplice.

For my Spin it doesn't matter.  If I were to replace a main halyard, I would use X but have the supplier do the eyesplice.

kicknbug, have you found anything on this?  I seem to have lost my halyard during fall take-down (how that happened is beyond me), so I'm in the market too.
