Tom Ray did a review on the Legacy on his Tropical Boating website a few years back. He used a 3.5 two stroke that gave something over 5 knots at full throttle. Based on that it would suggest that a 2.5 could be marginal under less than optimal conditions.

Depends on where you sail.  A protected lake would be fine with 2.5hp but tide, currents, waves would need 4-5.

My 4HP Tohatsu(4 stroke) is plenty powerful for my Legacy

Hi Tom,

I have a 6HP Evinrude on my Legacy. When it's rough, I want enough!

Cheers,
