Title: CLR 2014 Christmas cards.
Post by: Bob23 on September 09, 2014, 04:19:51 AM
Greetings recovering CLR's:
After the CLR of this year which was my first (thank you all for organizing such an epic, fun event. I'm still smiling!) a few of us on FB discussed the possibility of a Christmas card exchange. Now we're talking real cards, whether store bought or home made but not these dreaded e-cards or whatever you want to call them.
If you attended, survived and are interested in participating, PM me your name, address, email address
and boat name and model. I'm not sure how to proceed here but once a comprehensive list is compiled, I could email the whole list out. Does this sound like fun? To a real letter writer and card sender like me, it does.
I suppose for practicality's sake, a deadline should be made for the list. I'd propose November 15th as a deadline. Being just over a month from today, that should be plenty of time to compile a list. I'm open to suggestions about how to do this so who's up for this? I know it seems premature but there's only 106 days left till Christmas.
If you are not of a Christian faith and don't send out Christmas cards, so what? Sign up anyway. Hey, we're all Compac-o-nauts at heart, eh? Well, what say ye?
Ayuh!

Shoot! Thanks for the reminder,  Kick. I'm so behind on everything this year. Will do.

Thanks for that, Kick.

To clarify, I've received Greene's and Bruce's pictures, but that's it so far. Most of Greene's were fairly blurry, unfortunately.  So I will need lots of pictures or the DVD won't be that great.

Also Rich, your photobucket album is private so I can't see or download your pics.  Please change the setting on the photobucket folder to public.

How about we set a deadline of September 30 so I can produce the DVD in early October.  Much later than that and my schedule will be far too crazy to give it any attention.

Salty, if you download the file from Photobucket (I believe it is a zip file) you will get the full resolution pictures.  If you just download or save the pics they will be low resolution and blurry.  I ran into this when I did the DVD for CLR.

Sorry for continuing the thread hijack Bob.

Far be it from me to accuse anyone of hijacking! But while I have Kick's and Salty's attention, how 'bout it guys? PM me your address and all the info above. Mike, even thought technically you weren't there, in spirit you were. And if you promise to bring double the PBR next year, I know I will forgive you and I'm sure MG will too!

I will get a flash drive to you, Mike. But be patient...to say I'm technologically challenged is an understatement.

C'mon now all you silent CLR ers. I've only gotten 3 responses so far. The word from the Big Red Man is that things may not be very Merry for you on the morning of 12/25 if you don't participate. No threats here...just passing along the word from the man.

It doesn't look like I have responded to this yet, which is odd, because I cleared it with the boss and she said it was a good idea!

Now, not to jinx us, but perhaps encourage us, I will say that for the last 5 years we have had cards for family, that I helped sign, put in envelopes, then left for my wife to address and stamp and send, and yet they sit in a box waiting......

I told my wife if we are more diligent than that of our family cards, this should be fun!

Bob, I will PM you my address and information.

Great! I knew I could count on you, Mack. I think this will be fun and a nice way to continue the CLR spirit. Speaking of spirits, remind Ginger that she was gonna Pm me her recipe for "Tie me to the Main Mast."

I've received 5 takers in this endeavor so at least 5 of us are getting something for Christmas. The rest of you slackers- step up to the plate, already. Christmas will be here before you know it. It's less than3 months away. YIKES!!! REALLY???

Ok. Santa here.
Yeah, that's right. Mr. Claus.  Chris Kringle. Jolly Old St. Nick. 'Cept I'm not in a jolly mood right now 'cause Bob23 tells me that some of you CLR'ers aren't responding to his Christmas card deal. Obviously, Christmas cards are important to me and should be to you, too. So, if you slackers don't want to wake up on Christmas morning with zilcho under the tree, better get off your keasters and PM or EM him your address NOW!
Normally, I'm not this forceful but Bob has turned me on to the merits of the Compac 23 and I kinda owe him a favor. Plus, I think this is a great idea which costs practically nothing. So, can I expect some action or would you like a load of reindeer poop on your nice green front lawn?
Btw, little known fact: I sail a 1994 Compac 23D. Great boat and I can put a load of presents on board if need be. Painted it red and it has really cool green sails. The Mrs. also loves it...gotta keep the Admiral happy. You mean, nobody was wondering what I do in the summer? You think I'm gonna hang with those smelly elves making presents all summer? No way...I'm like you: Boats to sail, rum to drink.
If I see some real progress, I may just show up for CLR 2015!

Looks like the list is complete. I originally gave November 15th as the deadline but considering that I'm the czar of this endeavor, I hereby declare the list is closed and complete. I'll email it out in a day or two.
