Title: CLR 2014 Pictures and Reports
Post by: MacGyver on August 04, 2014, 08:36:16 PM
I am starting this thread, only because I was home first! LOL

Feel free to add to this post, and I will be adding pictures and such from what I took as I get them downloaded and uploaded to Photobucket.

I want to start by saying, I hope all attendees had fun, and to the new attendees, be sure to attend next year, as it only gets better as you attend. Typically the first time you are kind of finding your place, seeing how things go, and it is a very loose get together, as we all saw how Roger was able to continue to sail without consequence! :)

Our attendees this year were (by name on forum): and no particular order!
Kickinbug, Greene, MacGyver, Toolman, CrazyCarl, rogershwake, christopher, jollygreen, JohnJ, sailen69, Lafayette Bruce, and mattman
We certainly missed our friends Salty19, as they were unable to make it this year.

At the big race, Mattman won first place in a CP16
(http://i1241.photobucket.com/albums/gg507/JGDVS/20140802_202631_zps1wwedpx5.jpg)
rogershwake was awarded the second place in the race award with his Suncat
(http://i1241.photobucket.com/albums/gg507/JGDVS/20140802_202527_zpskmtkl29z.jpg)
CrazyCarl was awarded the Anchor award, for coming in last place, although, he did assist stranded boaters! (What a guy!) and as you can see in the picture JohnJ, pictured in the right, was sad to have lost.
Toolman was awarded the prettiest boat award for his Eclipse
(http://i1241.photobucket.com/albums/gg507/JGDVS/20140802_202325_zpsu8acucad.jpg)
Greene were awarded the best costume award (which was really awesome!)
Bob23 was awarded the rusty axle (??) award for coming the farthest to attend CLR
(http://i1241.photobucket.com/albums/gg507/JGDVS/20140802_202200_zpsbemyhdhy.jpg)
Jollygreen was awarded the OLD GUY award for being the oldest to attend (my picture didnt turnout!)
and MacGyver was awarded the newest sailor award (I dont have a picture for this)

It was a huge success, despite the lack of wind, and I for one look forward to 2015.

Let the picture posting, story telling, and lying begin!

Mac

Great coverage and photos, Mac. One correction: I was first home, pulling into home port at 0245 hrs local time this morning! Haha. Total mileage, including Salty sidetrack and getting lost: 2012.5 statute miles in almost exactly 4 days. And the CLR 2014 was worth every mile. You can count me in for next year...I may even bring a sailboat!
To anyone reading this who has considered attending but hasn't: What in the world are you waiting for? Book the date now. You won't regret it.
As for my trophy, I'll cherish it and put it up with the rest..oh- this is the first one!

Wow, Bob 23 was there and I missed it!

Thought about it seriously a few weeks back even to the point of checking for reservations (none available that late), but I couldn't have gone anyway.  Admiral had to take her mother to Georgia to see a couple of sick brothers.  She hadn't been back for ten years or so and they are all in their eighties, so not good to postpone that visit.

Looks like a good time was had by all.  Wind is highly overrated anyway.:)

So glad you all had a great time, and sorry the Admiral and I were not able to make it this year. Wish we could of seen all the regulars again and met the new crew.
This event keep getting bigger each year and it's because of the great people that attend.

Congrats to Matt for first place in the race and Roger for second! Well earned, men!

i guess its a good time to say my piece.---thanks to everyone who attended: mike and brenda, carl and joan, jason and ginger, bruce and tammy, jim and kathy, luke and debbie, matt, john, rich, chris, roger and jack. we had 12 boats ,ten were com-pacs (mike and i embraced the dark side).  the wind was scarce but the laughs sure weren't. a special thanks to carl for his comedic "stylings". as wonderful as this years event was it could have been better---mike and becky couldnt make it. the night we all sat around the fire pit, it was decided that next year the event will take place during the week. probably begin with the meet and greet on tuesday night with the big "race to the creek" on wednesday followed by the awards banquet. as usual each day will include swimming and god forbid a little grog. i know that during the week the lake is pretty much deserted and the ramps and parking lot pretty much empty. i know everyone can do with out big power boats and jet skis (especially the ones with booming stereos). i hope that our new sailors chris, roger and jack will be back next year, (it was great to meet and get to know you guys). as in years past we have learned what works and what doesnt but we are always open to suggestions so dont be shy and e mail me your thoughts. the people who come to this event make that week very special to us, (brenda, you made sarah cry on monday morning---thanks again). i really didnt think the CLR would last this long, but happily it has. for our part, sarah and i will continue to try and make it fun and memorable in the future. great people under sail---what can be better than that.

Want to thank everyone for the great time I had at the CLR. Lots of great people, good times, good eats and a few libations. I advise anyone in the area to attend when this comes around next year. Already working on the wife to get her to go with me next year. Thanks again and see you next year.

Wish I could have made it on Saturday for the "race", but I had to answer to a higher power and decide between floating on the lake or getting some more siding up on the house before the school year starts. Siding won (boo)

again, sarah and i want to thank everyone who showed up this year. i guess i should have had you bring your own wind this year, (really unusual for carlyle). anyway next year will be a "jimmy Buffet" theme for the sat night bash. hear that mike and becky? this gives everyone plenty of time to go to mike and brendas favorite costume (i mean thrift) store and buy god awful hawian shirts etc. please no trained parrots. i even thought that sailing in costume is also an option (please wind next year---ok?)  send me e mail suggestions at fordtruck52@yahoo.  to mike and brenda----if your master plan is realized, get on a plane, ill pick you up at the airport and you will be pressed into service on one or more vessels. mine could use a good waxing too

Although it's a long way off, I'm looking forward already. I have a closet full of Hawaiian shirts so that shouldn't be a problem. I could even bring Charlie, our African Grey parrot. Anybody want him?
Keeping with my lunacy travel reputation, I'm even toying with trailering my 23 out. Hey, how long could it possibly take? If that would sweeten the deal enough to entice M&B to attend, I'd do it. And I'll bring all the PBR Mike can possibly drink.

A Jimmy Buffett Theme!?!?! Becky and I are looking forward to it already!   Like Bob, I'm sure we can muster up the proper attire. And there will be no shortage of music to play.

We really wish things were different this year with respect to medical issues.  A week later and I would of been able to travel OK (but perhaps not be able to swim, but I could of dealt with that)...sigh.. :(

But, it was really cool to have Bob23 visit for a few during his travels through the midwest.  Great to of finally met you,  Bob!  Thanks for making the side trip to our little corner of Columbus.

Great pictures all. Keep 'em coming.  For those that aren't sure how to post them to a website, email some to me for the DVD.  Please see the email in my profile.  Also let me know your address to mail the DVD to if you have not received one in the past.

There is no doubt that I will be there next year with my wife Carol.  We talked about coming this year with our new (to us) 2007 Eclipse but too many other commitments got in the way.  As soon as a date is firm we will put it in the mix.  It really looks like a great event.

al, you and carol will be more than welcome. and if you win the clr "big race" you could go home with a trophy (it could be a old golf or bowling trophy).  well, as long as its big and awful looking what else matters.
