Title: Odd Bracket on Stern
Post by: HeaveToo on July 23, 2014, 10:31:27 AM
On the back of my Compac 23 there is another stainless steel bracket.  I am curious to figure out what it is.

On the port side of the stern there is the factory placement of the outboard bracket.  The rudder is in the center.  On the starboard side of the stern there is the ladder.  Underneath the ladder there is a flat stainless steel bracket that has a small track on both sides of it.  It looks like a bracket where an outboard bracket would mount into.  I have no idea what this is for unless someone had an outboard there at one time.  The problem with that theory is that the ladder would be in the way of this.

Either way, I am considering removing this bracket and filling the holes with Marine Tex.  Any thoughts on this?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Photos would also be greatly appreciated.
how close to the water line is the mount?

Could be an old mount for a scuba ladder. Does it look like this?

I do remember someone (maybe on this forum) adding a port side mount for using an electric trolling motor when towing to and sailing a lake that does not permit gasoline outboards.

I think that it is one of these:

The odd thing is that the ladder is in the way so you really couldn't put the outboard bracket on there.
