Title: Any hints on the sink pump in a Eclipse?
Post by: alsantini on July 03, 2014, 10:40:25 AM
Me again....  When I bought the Ecli0pse the previous owner said he had replaced the sink pump with the OEM pump.  Well it does not work.  Has anyone tried to rebuild these pumps and is this a common problem?  Plus, how do you get to the line between the tank and the pump?  I figure it might have a air leak that shuts down the pump and could be the cause of the original problem.  Thanks in advance.  By the way I am thoroughly impressed with the Eclipse and how well it sails.  Best boat out of the 7 I have owned.  A keeper for a long time.     Al

Hi Al,
The Fynspray galley pump on our 06 Eclipse worked ok for the first year but the next season it gave up the ghost.   I found a place to purchase a rebuild kit at

I installed the new seals and had only mediocre results.  The pump is made in New Zealand and may be the reason the pump and parts are so costly.  I saw a copy of the 2010 Eclipse parts list and noticed that they have changed to a "Rocket" galley pump which sells for about a third of the Fynspray.

I would give the rebuild kit a try. You may get better results then I did.
Here is link that describes the repair.

The same pump is used on the 23.  When mine started giving me trouble I looked at the parts that would be needed to fix it and they cost about what a new pump would cost.  I went this route, spent maybe 1.5 times what those parts were going to cost me and it is soooo much nicer.  The up and down motion of the fynspray really bothers my bursitis.

I purchased a whale hand pump and installed it yesterday.  Not exactly the easiest of installations, but it is in and works really well.  Bought it from Defender.  It was the same pump I had in my Precision 21 (for 13 years!).  Did not realize that I would have to remove the bolster to get at the hose and clamp.  I was impressed at how the boat is assembled - solid !!  The PO had already rebuilt the standard pump so I figured the garbage can was the next move for it.  New one looks and works great.
