Title: New rudder for a Compac 16.
Post by: PJM on June 28, 2014, 09:14:41 PM
I have owned a Compac 16 for several years but only my daughter and her husband have sailed her. I now wish to put her back in the water and sail her myself. i worry about the gusty winds that we encounter on Elephant Butte lake where I intend to put her in the water. I think that several years ago I read about a rudder that was deeper than the one that came with the boat which improved her ability to go to windward. Info. on this issue would be appreciated.

Hey PJM:
I put an IDA Rudder on our C16, which sailed on Ft Peck Lake in NE Montana.  The lake is very gusty and winds vary with the gulley or valley that they blow out of or across.

Thanks Charlie, I just went on to their site and found the rudder that will probably suite me. At one time I lived in Billings but did not get around the state very much.
