Hi, Jene here. Got up the nerve to take my maidiin sail in "Sparrow" late yesterday afternoon. Everything for the most part went very well. The wind here on the lake was quite light, 5-7 knots with maybe some gusts of around 10. I ran down to the south end of our lake and tacked back up home. My jib sheets hang up on the halyards where they come down along the mast. Wounder if I move the cheek blocks up farther so only the bare mast be in the way? Also thought about using smaller jib sheets in light air. I'm thinking with a stronger breeze it would blow the jib across. The ones I have are at least 1/4" not sure of the exact size. The homemade sail stop works great (a bolt, washer, and wing nut). Still a few more things I would like to do to her. Jib bag, new rudder, Bimini, new halyards, to name a few.
Blessings, 'J'ene
Jene,
Try Backwinding your jib (holding the windward jib sheet tight till after you pass beyond the wind so she fills up). It should just fly across the the bow then.
