Here's some inspirational reading for all of you who long for a serious journey in a small boat. Just finished this one- San Franciso to Kauai in a Cal 20' called "Black feathers". Everyone thought he was crazy too, but did a pretty intense journey...2500 miles on a boat, (w/ a deep fin keel), 20' boat. It didn't sound too bad the trip..... price was right for an oceangoing sailboat, even after all the somewhat unnecessary mods.

Book is a great read...very inspiring
This guy is my hero even more so, and a great writer next to Bernard Moitessier. Webb Chiles sailed solo from San Diego to the Marquesas in an open Drascombe Lugger (about 20' centerboard boat)...5,000 miles non-stop...Then crossed the pacific...capsized off Vanuatu.....Fixed a few minor things and then sailed to Saudi Arabia and was thrown in jail for no reason except he was the kewlest person ever. There have been others that have done amazing journeys too, but these are very tangible for Compac 16's..or bigger! if he thinks this boat is safe, a CP16 is definitely way safer with a cabin and a solid keel!

Forget CLR; I see a much cooler annual Com-Pac event: fleet sail from San Francisco to Hawaii. Prizes for best finish in each class. We can fly our new burgees along the way. Count me in.

Keep the water out of the hull and anything will drift across oceans and wash up on a beach.
It's amazing the list of debris that beached itself in California from the Japanese earthquake and tsunami on 11-March-2011.
Small boat's on big voyages; I enjoyed the book Tinkerbell detailing her epic trip from Boston to the U.K..
