Title: I'd Rather Be Sailing
Post by: Mattlikesbikes on December 08, 2013, 04:32:46 PM
I am not a fan of winter these days.  I do not think I will be able to convince my wife we need to move somewhere warmer and closer to the water  >:(

We have about 6" on the ground here at the shore. 31 degrees...just starting to turn to rain. C'mon summer!
But maybe a little cross country tonight.

Been snowing since 4:00 am Sunday [today] still coming down but harder now. It's 4:00 pm and beginning to accumulate.
The Packers, 30 miles South played a heck of a game in even more snow. It's 13 degrees and no wind.

The Packers will be circling the bowel while the Seahawks go to the Super Bowel out East.

skip.

Yep, definitely winter here in Wisconsin, although I was up in Hayward yesterday and I think it was 18 below when I woke up yesterday morning.....Southeast Wisconsin is balmy in comparison.  Kids out sledding.  Got to catch up on CPYOA posts, but I think the Florida guys are in the right place this time of year,  its real tough to launch the boat through the ice!!!

I sailed my CP 16 all weekend here in Treasure Island, FL. I think it was 82 today.  We had a steady wind from the south that made for some nice sailing.  I wouldn't mind a touch of that cooler weather for Christmas. Just a touch though..Lol

I'm raising the membership fees for all Florida sailors by 25% !!!! It'll help to buy us Northerners snow shovels!

Ahoy,
31 degrees here.  Will drop to Zero tonight they say.  Nice wind and the sun was out. Had a storm on Tuesday here in Albuquerque that covered things pretty well.  My boat sits in the shadow of the neighbors house.
I pulled it out to the street and swept it off. Thawed it a bit in the sun and got the big chunks off.  Went to the lake for a little solo sailing.  I left the snow on the deck just to look nice for some pics.  Could not get the ice out of scuppers though, frozen solid.  Need to make a cover I guess.

Wow what fun.... I had practiced rigging alone in the driveway earlier this year.  So that went smoothly.  The launch went great too. Next time I will tie the boat to the dock before backing and not to the trailer.  That way I won't pull the boat forward when I take out the trailer.  Worried I might snap the line or fitting with the pull forward.

Any way was a little apprensive because the wind was pretty good and it was pretty cold. Maybe 28 at the lake.  So I rigged just the jib and took off.  All apprehension just melted away. Unlike the ice on the bowline which just sat in a lump on the deck where i tossed it.
Gusts up to 30 by the time I was heading back.  We have an indicator at the lake that lets you know.  Great fun, have been wanting to get out in some real weather and mess around.  Took my time and checked and double checked everything, not only was I alone on the boat, but the lake area was deserted.  A ranger finally came by when I was rigging up to leave.

The lake will freeze over soon if this cold keeps up.  Might take a trip out to Lake Pleasant around Christmas.  Phoenix area.
Best wishes to you all.  Stay warm.

Andrew

It's snowing her in Iowa also. I must be getting old because its no fun to go out in the snow and playing anymore, maybe a few snow balls. There's always things to repair and  parts to order for next year. All this snow will melt in the spring and be water to sail on, hope for a early spring.

Just heard on the news that we in South Florida could be sunned-in for the next several days. We have been urged to hunker down at our nearest beach and/or tiki bar for further instructions. Use extreme caution when braving this blizzard of sunshine, preferably SPF30. We are asking our friends and relatives to the north to please keep us in their thoughts as we deal with 2 feet buried in the sand.  :D

I have a sunburn from putting up Christmas lights. Something wrong about that. I live on the water here in west Florida. I know some of you don't like the cold weather, but it would be nice to have an end to summer here for a little while.  Some cool weather would be a welcome as far as I'm concerned.

Sterling,

Let's swap houses for the winter.  Much cooler here but a hearty one can still sail year-round.

I guess I should feel lucky it is a warm 20 degrees here in Bucks County PA.  As for all of the Florida sailors. I am jealous.  There was a time not long ago that I used to love winter. Skiing, snowboarding. My wife and I actually had our honeymoon in Lake Tahoe in the winter so we could snowboard the whole time. Fast Forward 8 years and 2 kids later and I want nothing more to do with the cold and snow.  Come on spring!!!!
