Saw these at the boat show many years ago.
Springs go 'stiff' to hold the hatch open.
And goes 'u-shape' with just a touch to close.
Be a worm. That black ink line is from closing the hatch and tracing the surround onto the hatch's inside to cypher out where to glue the wood.
Just need to glue [3-M 5200 slow set] a piece of wood inside the hatch. And grind off the screw's extra length in the fiberglass surround.
[The stickers are for guests if the skipper goes down. It's a get home thing]
This came about because years ago, while tied to a dock, I was whacked in the head [no puns please] with a slammed hatch from the wake of a 54' Hatteras Yacht making speed in a no wake area! I radio called the Coast Guard and they pulled him over in the 'cut' heading for Lake Michigan. I can't say if it was me or my aching head that made me wish for a 60mm mortar to put a round through his hull.
skip.
