I have never tried to use the magic tilt on my trailer - wondering how well or IF it is beneficial at the boat ramp for our 23's ?
All comments very welcomed ?
Used it on my 19 once. was more trouble than it was worth. didn't really need it. Works better for launching than retrieving. When the weight of the boat comes forward and the tilt goes down you have to make sure the spring loaded pin is still pulled back. would need to be under the boat (and possible underwater) when retrieving or have a line tied to the pin in order to do so.
I find my tongue extension works much better.
Forget the tilt. Make a three foot extension.
skip.
Thanks Guys -- I just really needed some veteran trailer-sailor input !
An additional $.02 - Since I'm a trailer sailor, I hit a number of different ramps under differing conditions (high tide, low tide or something in between... neap?). Usually I don't utilize the tilt feature on the CP16, however, on occasion it really is helpful. Especially when the ramp is not very steep or is short (watch your rudder!).
A thought: My 16 weighs in at about 1300 lbs. loaded, I think a 23 with gear would be pretty scary, especially when retrieving, not to mention a really big splash! ::)
