Title: Well enough alone!
Post by: hinmo on September 28, 2013, 10:12:40 AM
I tried tightening the bolts on my engine mount, and the bottom one with the spring snapped.
Is this a stock mount from Hutchins? I only see a complete replacement on their parts list. I would like to buy the bolt/spacer assembly, but will jury rig if I have to.

Any ideas?

Go down to Ace Hardware, Fastenal, W.W. Granger, or West marine and buy a bolt.

skip.

Yes, I did. Seems to work ok, I had to jury-rig the spacers with pieces of PVC pipe.

My mount is made by Garelick, and had some broken parts. I called the company, and was told they do not sell replacement parts (!). If the mount is 15 years old or newer, they do offer a factory rebuild service. When I complained, they said the mounts were "not intended to be repaired by the owner."

Well. No problem finding bolts, but try asking your Ace Hardware for those springs or hard plastic spacers (PVC is too soft to last very long). Negative karma to Garelick.
