Title: 16/2, 16/3???
Post by: Nivek on September 11, 2013, 01:26:28 AM
Hi everybody!
I have a cp 16 purchased this spring here in Finland. This is my first season sailing and I enjoy it! But, please can anyone tell me the difference between 16/2 and 16/3? In my documents the type is  both 16/2 and 16/3. What do this figures tell me about what? Since the boat gives me an impression of Donald Duck I will call it "Kvack", i.e. the sound of a duck in swedish (my mothertongue). I joined this Association yesterday, exiting!
best regards
Torbjörn Kevin (Kevin actually being my family name)

I think, but could be wrong, that the CP-16 Mk II has no centerboard.

While the CP-16 MK III has a centerboard that is housed within the keel and does not intrude into the area of the cockpit.
Why mess with success?

I hardly think the centerboard will make her sail any higher into the wind. It's the hull shape that counts.

skip. " Peace of boat? Piece of boat " Different things between a PC II and a III ? Maybe a fiberglass cabin liner on the inside? How far do the portholes stick out from the cabin bulkhead? Standing rigging? Size of the head sail? Is there a bow sprit?

Thanks for kind comments. My cp has no centerboard, that´s more than obvious even to a happy amateur like me...Maybe I should stop thinking of irrelevant (?) figures and just enjoy the fact that I am an owner of such a nice peace of boat!

Welcome to the site and the world of Com-Pac sailing.  If you post some pictures of your boat, someone will help you identify it.  You can determine the manufacture date and hull number from the serial number stamped into the outside stern of your boat.

I am not an authority, but I have seen a post on this site that claimed the following.  Maybe you can use it to help answer your question.
Com-Pac 16 1976 - 1983
Hull 1 to 2210

Com-Pac 16/2 1984 - 1987
Added Bowsprit and Spreaders

Com -Pac 16/3 1988 - 1991
Added forehatch

Com-Pac 16/3/XL 1992 - 2002
Centerboard option available in 1996
