Title: Finished rebuliding the trailer and did a test Fit
Post by: Mattlikesbikes on August 17, 2013, 07:51:12 PM
Finally finished up my trailer except for new tires and fixing the tongue.

Here is what I did
I removed or cut off every rusty bolt
New bunks and carpeting
New keel rollers and associated hardware
New axles hubs and suspension.
New winch post and bow mount

I went this morning up to the lake and pulled the boat out of the water to make all the final adjustments.  We had to put her back in the water once to float the boat back a little to adjust the winch post.  For the bunk boards the fit was pretty close . I used a scissor jack and lowered each post and brought them up until it just made contact with the hull.   The two rear posts are lower then the other posts. From what I read the trailer was designed this way to get the boat on and off easier.

All in all it took us about a hour to pull the boat make the adjustments and put her back in the slip.  I should be good in October when I pull the boat for the season.

On a side note a noticed a few scratches scuffs from the sharp stern corner of the pontoon boat next to me.  I new I bounced off it a few times coming in and not fending off quick enough on that side.  More stuff to polish this winter.

nice redo on your trailer..I am starting down that path replacing rusty bolts new bearings etc.  I am looking for a new bolt assy for the pipe stanchion connection to the trailer c-channel.  Was quoted u bolt assys that would cost as much as a used trailer.  Also would like a source for new trailer yokes for the 12" bow rollers mine are failing and rust ridden.

EX-CELL-ANT!  :D

I would have made the verticals holding the hull bunks up longer so they protrude under the trail's frame channel.

That way using a floor jack to push the vertical up, the boat could be raised above the keel rollers for painting or scar fixing.

No matter, good job. Do you have another axle assembly? I'd add it to my trailer for a four wheel trailer, just for poops and grins.

Here it is 40 deg F. outside and I'm still floating at the dock.

skip.
