Well the 1974 2 stroke Johnson that came with my boat has died. Almost 40 years of service.
I am open to suggestions for its replacement.
The old motor was a 4HP.
I am real intrested in one that has an amp to charge the battery with.
Thanks in advance for all suggestions.
I have a CP 19, highly recommend the Ultra long shaft Tohatsu 6hp SAIL PRO. it has a charger, but is pull start if that matters.
Fantastic engine, it pushes the 19 at what I would say is full speed or darn close at about 1/4 to 1/3 throttle.
Tilts to almost vertical which is nice

I can agree with Mac. I have a 1988 Nissan 8 hp 2 stroke long shaft on my 23 and rarely go above 1/2 throttle. If I were to buy a new motor, it'd probably be an 8 hp Sailpro because I like the versatility of the extra horsepower when I need it. I do sail in tidal conditions and occasionally have to motor into an opposing tide and wind.
Next up?...

Tohatsu Sailpro, great engine. I replaced a 8hp Johnson 2 cylinder 2 stroke on my 23.

I replaced a very heavy 9.9 four stroke with a Nissan sailpro XL shaft 6 HP 4 stroke. Have only used it three times, but like it a lot so far. The Nissan and Tohatsu are the same motor.
I have a Nissan Marine 6hp 4-stroke, not bulky has a alternator (charger, same thing) and runs like a champ! very light as my previous motor was a 9.9 2-stroke Merc. They are pricey lil fellas, but if you can find one on the cheap, I highly recommend it!
