Title: How does one ditch "old bags," or does anyone one need them?
Post by: Citroen/Dave on July 03, 2013, 07:49:41 PM
I have about a month to go before my new CP16/2 sails are due to arrive.

What is the proper way to discard an '85 original main and jib? I feel like there ought to be a patriotic way like burning them in respect to the many miles these soft "old bags" have travelled with the previous owners.

I have used them four times, never got in irons, and had to reef the main on two trips.  No complaints other than the Bimini/low boom clearance problem that has my DIY Bimini project on hold. I am looking forward to better sailing performance; "Slow Dancing" might just dance more upright and pick up the tempo a little with the new sails!

If anyone wants them, (next month), they are yours for the cost of shipping.  If you have a "new" old boat and are in the position that anything is better than nothing, then leave a message.

give these guys some consideration...they re-cycle sails and give you a tote or some other items of trade. I just sent them some sails but have not received the merchandise back yet, but it's a great way to get something for old sails. They can incorporate your sail insignia's into a custom design.

Wow, Andrew!  Great response!

I still have a month to go if anyone else is interested.

Andrew has a good idea.
Make sea bags out of the old 'canvas'.
Make a boom tent.
Make a storm chute [sea anchor]
Start a business, the government needs your money.

skip.

I would like to try them.  They are probably better than mine, at least the mainsail.

I am still using the original mainsail on my 1976 C-16.

My jib is ok but my main is in very sad shape.

I'll PM my mailing address.

Thanks!

The old sails have been asked for and they will be shipped after the new sails arrive.

Thanks.
