Title: Interior makeover
Post by: jimyoung on July 01, 2013, 02:14:33 PM
Not yet through but Miss B is getting some interior updating. Leaks over time has rotted the backside of the 27 year old teak plywood so it's time for a makeover...

More pics as I get further into the job... has to be ready for a 3 - 4 month hiatus come 1st of October. Another attempt at the South Florida loop.

Trying to ground myself.  Is that the port v-berth bulk head, or the starboard head wall?
Either way, that layout is different then my '94.  Is is it all custom, or just refinished?  Looks like you have a chart table?
Is the planking on the porthole wall new?  My 27 has plywood laminate.

PS: The port hole looks mint.  Nice job refinishing it.

Project up-date,

Harrier,
That shot is the starboard head wall, and it is all pretty much custom. The nav station I built 2 years ago but am updating it. All the walls and uppers are new this time around. The stock plywood gave out from the backside after 27+ years. Acquired some 2" x 4" x 10' rough cut teak boards that had been in a friends garage for years to do the planking with. Here is where I am at with the port side.

The port outers are stock bronze that I had chrome plated about 15 years ago in an ongoing effort to keep exterior maintenance to a minimum. They have actually held up much better than I thought they would.

Here is a shot looking aft to port;

Still have the galley to do then LOTS of trim.

I am trying to get the boat ready for an extended trip around the south Florida loop.  I tried it once before but ran out of time and money so this time I am taking work with me and with a little luck and the internet my clients may never know I have left the office.

One last shot of the work toward Miss B. having what I call "Big boat doors".  The hinges are open single pin type so when sailing they can be lifted and stowed same as the old hatch boards.

I will keep posting as I progress.

Also you guys have convinced me that I need an inspection hatch into my water tank so keep me up to date with your progress!

Thanks for idea of quick-release hinge application on companionway doors.

I even have a set of spring-loaded quick-release hinges standing by for my Sun Cat!

That is a GREAT idea. Are the boat-side of the hinges just attached to the drop board guides? I've been wanting to build some custom doors for my companionway, but the designs I found looked pretty daunting to build. Yours looks very simple, two flat doors and a couple hinges.

Those mods are REALLY neat.

Once you go totally crazy consider the interior layout of a Nonsuch Ultima.
Walks away from the standard quarter births on both side of the hull.
Of course this does not work well unless its a cat boat design. Vee Birth is in the way. ;D

skip.

Insert for door is complete. Never realized just how unsymmetrical the opening for the slats was.

With the door in place;

one more of the stbd' side stripping and new overhead below the ports.

Thanks again for all the really nice comments.

One more of the galley area... No trim anywhere yet.

More as I finish it up.

Nice work, I thought about the loop last year since I had time after the Tortugas but the thought of lake okeechobee in June with the bugs didnt seem appealing as compared to a few days at Tween waters dockside with the AC running.
