Title: Homemade Dorad box for waterproof cabin ventilation
Post by: mandolinut on April 19, 2013, 11:35:14 PM
This is a nice weekend project to keep your boat ventilated without worrying about rain water entering your cabin through your wind scoop. . If rain water blows in the wind scoop, it drains out the rear exit hole. There is a small wooden crosspiece serving as a dam inside the box that prevents the water from going forward and entering the cabin.
Held to deck with acrylic caulk (no additional drill holes :0)

Yes, thank you.
I have a teak dorade with cowl vent on my 23. Works great. Because my boat is moored, it's always facing into the wind. Nary a drop of water has ever entered my boat.
I cut down a stock teak box so the top would be level and the box wouldn't be so high. Just looked better to my eye
