Title: CP 14 - Not a picnic cat
Post by: com14pac on August 16, 2004, 04:01:57 PM
I just got a CP 14, hull #26, built in '88.  Evidently 31 were made.  I would like to know if anyone, besides Woody at the factory, knows anything about them.  I bought the boat without sails, and there doesn't appear to be any data on the sail sizes, besides the flyer notation that there is a main and jib w total sq ft of 102.  They are fractional rig sloops.  It looks like a very nice little boat.  I have always admired the Com Pacs and this is my 6th boat (starting over after getting married and in the process of raising 4 crew) and have sailed/lived aboard a Nor'West 33 for 5 years before getting married.  I have approx 8,500 blue water miles under my belt and this boat is "for our son" to enjoy to get back into sailing.

Fair winds.

Pictures please!!

No direct help for you, but willing to try help sort out what sails to get.  If you can do some measuring,  lets see what I can find for you to try.  I have bought used sails for a few different boats over the years, and it is usually not too hard to match something up.

I called around to numerous used lofts.  Found several that were close.  Also spoke to 4 sailmakers and got quotes.  Finally went with the last sailmaker as he was most responsive and best price.  I will take some pics this weekend w her new sails.  Wanted to get tan bark, but they were 25% premium on the cost.

I have gotten used sails several times for my other boats.  They can be a very good value, but you have to check them closely.  Vic
