Title: Wanted to Buy: CP 19 Cabin Cushions
Post by: lochinvar on February 11, 2013, 09:50:51 PM
As of April 14, 2013, still want to buy CP19 Cabin Cushions

Hello all,
I bought a derelict CP19 and am nursing it back to health. Already have new sails, covers, a Tohatsu 6HP Sail Pro with remote control, an Idasailor rudder, a new motor mount, many other little things.

It is a total rework and I am grateful for all articles you fine folks have contributed to the forum. I am constantly lurking and reading all the stuff you all have written and there are quite a few gems.

For instance, the cabin top flexes greatly in spots. However, that is covered as there was a forum entry about drilling holes in the cabin top but not the ceiling and injecting epoxy to bind the two together. Problem solved; so glad someone contributed to the forum.

However, I do not have any cabin cushions. I *just* missed the CP19 cushions that were for sale and now they are gone.

So I am still looking for some cushions. I don't want to make them myself. I don't want to order the gold-plated ones that a few shops offer.
If any of you have upgraded to other cushions and have your stock ones left and want to get rid of them, Here I am.

I don't prefer vinyl. That said, please just PM me if you do or respond to my yahoo address. which is shawnfenwick.
Many Thanks,
Shawn

Have you checked the factory? I wonder if they still have or can get cushions for the out of production 19's?

Bob - I believe they do; I talked to Hutchins last year and they still offer the full set of cabin cushions for $1950. Pretty sure they have them made by JSI (formerly Johnson Sails). Amazingly my 1988 cushions are still in good shape. I had them steam cleaned by a carpet pro, then air dried in the sun (don't ever remove the covers for cleaning or you'll never get the foam back inside).

This is slightly off topic, but I just bought a set of cockpit (not cabin) cushions from JSI. Had a chance to talk to them at Annapolis and was impressed with their knowledge and expertise. I specifically didn't want the slick vinyl kind (a la Bottom Siders); preferred something with more of a fabric type cover. Cost me just under $900 for a full set but I love them. Soft enough to be comfortable but hard enough to step on when boarding. I had them made in six pieces so that the lazarettes could still be opened without detaching the cushions. Jane Vanse at JSI is a great resource.

Thanks, guys. Really though, for $1950 I would buy a machine, take lessons, Buy all the material and foam, maybe buy another sail - and I believe I would still have some money left over. Maybe not alot, but possibly some.

The last guy that was just a few days ago that had them only wanted about $200 or so. That is what I am looking for. Unfortunately I missed the train on that one.

Well, I misspoke.

Lafayette Bruce wanted $75 for a whole set plus shipping. Dang!
