Title: Skip's Com Pac 19 Comfort and Joy
Post by: ribbed_rotting_rusting on December 08, 2012, 04:29:24 PM
In Skip's photobucket album Com Pac 19 Comfort and Joy  there is a device in picture #9 of 27 that is in line with the starboard upper shroud above the spreader. I cannot figure out what it is. Maybe VHF antenna? My knowledge of radios is little beyond heathkits and new fangled 40 channel C.B.s How about it Skip, is it something I need or could maybe arrange as mysterious Xmas gift?   MJ Cox

Radar Reflector.

Like wow man, tubular. [Reflecting back to my hippy-dippy-days.] Bought it at the All Sail Boat Show in Chicago.

Offers more square inch reflection, more then the normal 'ball'. So they say.
I know it works because I hailed a 1000 footer in the Bay of Green Bay and he said he had me on his 4 mile loop. Good enough.
Isn't sixteen miles as far as one can see because of the curvature of the earth? I forget.

skip.

Thanks, sounds like a good idea.
In the late 80's or 90's the feds banned radar detectors on OTR rigs. You would not believe the funny looking AM/FM Cassette players that came on the market, usually in a shack with wheels not in the truckstops, but in the parking lot.  Trying to be seen is something new for me.

With out my glasses 100 yards is all I can see.
