Hello everyone,
I have been lurking on this forum for almost a year, in preparation of getting my first ever boat of anykind. I have had my eye on a 1980 Compac 16 for quite sometime and am pleased to say I am the proud owner and I don't think there is a single more excited man on the planet than me!! lol
Details are:
- Hull number: 1221
- New main sail and jib, only used twice
- New bottom paint, this past summer
- New anchor rode and chain
- New fenders and docking lines
- New interior paint
- New standing rigging
- New dorado vent
- Teak cleaned and oiled this summer
- Motor tuned this summer (2002 Nissan 3.5hp)
- Trailer partially primed this summer
- Tiller sanded and poly'd
This website has been a great resource over the past couple of months as I was educating myself and getting ready for boat ownership and to hit the water. I have a few upgrades I am saving for winter (nav lights, new trailer lights, cockpit cushions, naming). Is it acceptable to sit in the cockpit while it is in your garage!? :-)
I sincerely hope to be 'paying it forward' as I have been taking from this forum a lot more than I have been providing.

Thanks!

Your boat looks wonderful! And yes, it is completely acceptable to sit in the cockpit in the garage. When I had a CP16 I used to tell my wife I was going outside to "play boat", just to sit in the cockpit, or the cabin, and dream.
It looks like you have a custom bowsprit, if you get a chance can you take a few pictures of it? Looks interesting.
congratulations! very nice looking boat.. and where you live.. you probably will get to sail it this year! we are all looking forward to more pics.... especially ones from your first sail.. until then - enjoy sitting in the cockpit and dreaming as often as you can! jt
Nate,
Sure! I believe you are correct. I will try to get them taken and posted tonight.
JT,
I have my first sail planned, as an owner, for this Sat. Supposed to be 80deg. The PO is crewing for me. He has been a tremendous help with this whole process.
That is a very nice looking boat. I know you will have many great experiences abaord her.
I also agree with you that this board is extremely helpful for providing information and sharing techniques. I cannot thank these posters enough for all that they have provided me.
welcome. enjoy sitting in your cockpit, just be careful to brace the back of the trailer or your weight could cause the boat and trailer to tip. lowering the stern and raising the bow. I learned this the hard way the first year I had Seahawk. usually the trailer is hooked to it's tow vehicle and thus this can't happen. when in the garage it did.
Have a great winter.

That's a 1980? Someone took amazing care of that boat.
Thanks. I think he did. When he brought it up from FL 8 yrs ago or so, he put the boat AND trailer inside the moving truck and packed the household stuff around it. Gotta have your priorities straight !
Nate,
Here is a picture of the bowsprit.
