Title: mast pin ?
Post by: victor on October 07, 2012, 12:53:28 PM
Hello, Am a brand new owner of a 1988 cp-16, haven't even taken her out yet, still tinkering and cleaning. I seem to be missing the pin or whater ever the nomenclature  is that holds the mast to the bracket, it looks like a long bolt would work. Any help that I can get in understanding this would be helpful. I am new at this sailing life, thanks in advance for any help......

Yep, you're right, it's just a bolt and a wingnut (and maybe a washer or two, if you like).  I use stainless steel, but any other type of suitable size will work as well.  I'm new to sailing too, and was surprised by how much stuff for your boat you can get from Ace Hardware!

Hi Victor and Welcome to the wild and wacky world of sailors here at the CPYOA site! On my 23, it's just a stainless steel bolt, nut and combination of washers. Sure, you could use a wingnut.
So, tell us a little about yourself. Where do you sail? How did you find your boat? Any photos?
Looking forward to your contributions!

Welcome, Victor.  I use an eyebolt for the mast pin, with nuts on each end.  Gives me a convenient place to clip my topping lift when unhooked from the boom.
