Title: Cruising spinnaker for a CP-16--
Post by: kenz on November 22, 2005, 10:58:58 PM
Greetings!!  Have owned a 1983 CP-16 for about five years, but have a question about an asymetrical sail that came with the boat. Anyone out there using one on their 16?? I would be interested in knowing how difficult it would be to rig it, being that there was no hardware included, such as blocks, halyard controls, sheets,  dousing sock, etc.  I've heard that it is done on the CP-19 with some modification, but would like to get some input w/reguards to the 16. Also, how difficult would it be to singlehand, if feasable. Any input would be helpful. Thanks in advance.   Ken

Ken,

I don't have one on mine so I'm of little help. If you don't get a helpful response here try the sailmaker (if there is a label on the sail), or Com-Pac. They usually are very helpful with those kinds of things.

The halyard works best as a loop... that way you don't need a sock... it keeps the head from blowing too far from the boat and getting wet.  I run the loop through a block and clip it to the tabernackle and then cleat off the tight portion to the jib halyard v cleat at the rear of the cabin roof.  I don't have pics of the loop yet... but perhaps I'll post them soon.  Meanwhile, here are some of the hardware mods for the spin jenny.

Thanks for all the info. Looking forward to the photos of the jib halyard loop. Next step will be to acquire all the necessary hardware. Thanks again.  Ken

Hi Kenz et all

Well, I finally have the pics of the Halyard loop.... it's in the "owners pages" of the image gallery... here's the link.

works well with the other mods (links above) and is really cool when you let out all the lines... the kite flies waaay above the boat... (depending onthe wind of course)

Enjoy...

Title: Spinaker

Dale,
I just wanted to write to let you know how helpful your posts are.  I have had my 16 less than a year and really like it.  I have acquired a spinnaker and have started the rigging so I will be ready come spring.  I put a bow shackel on the tip of my pulpit(with a pipe clamp) for the downhaul line on the tack.

I also am looking to really buff and wax my topsides.

Anyway thanks again for your help.

Hi Dan...
Nice to be appreciated and fun to figure little mods for these great boats.

Before adding my bow sprit extension... (http://www.com-pacowners.com/4images/details.php?image_id=482)... I attached a swivel block to the stainless anchor guide strap.  (the steel loop at the tip of the bow sprit)... I used a large bow shackle to attach it... worked OK but the extension balances out better.

Have fun...
Dale
