We were sailing in good breeze yesterday. My friend was driving and I was observing the shape of the sail. I noticed that the sail along the gaff was quite smooth making a nice curving transition into the luff. I have always had kind of a bunching of the sail where the tack attaches to the gaff pin. Then I realized that the tack had released itself form the gaff pin. Only the bolt rope and the out-haul secured the head of the sail. We got back to our slip without any trouble and reset the tack. This a Doyle sail on my 2011 Suncat. Has anyone ever had this happen and am I doing anything wrong bending on the sail? Thanks, Steve
Mine came loose once as I was putting the sail away. The goose neck fitting that held the tack was no longer staying secure. So I removed it. Either put in fast pin or just a bolt with a nut on the end. I did the latter and have had no more problems with the tack.
