Looking to mount a swim ladder on the transom of my 1983 CP16. Any recommendations for telescoping or folding?
Thanks!
I have the same question. I bought a "swim stirrup" at West Marine, hoping it would solve the problem of getting in the boat, but it is totally useless.
the original boarding ladder was a folding one. it works ok but tends to want to fold as you stand on it. and with the small transom and end boom mainsheet, it is a bugger to get in. this is where the open transom boats have the edge
this is what I put on mine and I'm happy with it.

Hi everyone - new owner of a 1981 16/1. I'm also in the market for a swim ladder. I like the Garelick but having only two steps it seems it would be difficult to use. I know they make a three step version but I can't seem to find a pic of one - not even on the Garelick website. Anyone have a picture of the three step version? I'm just wondering if it will be too big for the 16's transom.
In addition to the new to us Compac 16, we also have a Union 32. I try to post a pic of our Union. I'll post some pics of our 16 after some elbow grease and minor updating.

Welcome aboard slowshoes. Mine is a 1981 too. Awesome little boat. Where do you sail?
Here is a shot of my two step. Sometimes the main sheet gets caught in it, even when I had the original sail rig on it. A three step would fold up higher and would be a nuisance in my opinion.

Geez, Rom, do you have a 20 giga pixel camera? that photo is HUUUUUGE.
Great shot of the new Admiral's smile.
Best of luck! TG

Thanks for the welcome and your input on the swim ladder romei. I guess I'll go with the 2 step and hope it won't be to much of a problem getting aboard. I'd hate for the mainsheet to get caught up in the 3 step ladder at the worst possible moment.
We sail our Union 32 on lake Erie - that's where we will be sailing our 16 (for the most part) too. I've already ordered a long shaft 6 hp Nissan for it - I want the extra shaft length and hp should we get caught out. (4 hp seems the ideal to me, but with no weight penalty for going with the 6 hp, I'll take the extra horses). I also wanted a F-N-R that you get with the 6hp.

Hi, I bought the oem ladder from hutchins this year for my '81 16. Fit well, and works well. It folds down and locks up.
