Hi all,
Initial sailing on inland Wisconsin lakes has gone well with my 16 and I may consider some sailing around Washington/rock islands and/or the apostle islands in the years to come. Has anyone sailed around these islands in a 16?
Thanks. Jason
Jason,
I've never been to either place, but they are on my "bucket list" of places to sail.
I always thought a trip around Door County would be an awesome sail.
Now, if we only knew someone in the Door County area who could set up a gathering of Compacs...hint, hint... Skip
Well, up, over, and back down from county line on the bay of Green bay side to county line on Lake Michigan is 300 miles of shore. But it is tops in the sailing world. I suggest Fayette North of Death's Door.
Apostle Islands is a fair day's drive 'Nort' from Sturgeon Bay.
skip.
The story from the person we bought our 16 from, is that the owners prior to him spent lots of time around the apostle's with the 16.
We haven't made it there yet, but would love to. The big lake still scares me and I'd probably feel better up there with a group or event.

I took my CP16 to the Apostles twice, here is a writeup I did on the first trip: http://plusultra-sailing.blogspot.com/2009/09/sailing-apostle-islands.html
I took my CP23 there last fall also. They have really improved the launch ramp in Bayfield with a lot of new parking spots as well as two nice modern bathrooms that are open 24 hours. You won't find very many people sailing anything less than about 26 feet out there, but if you're well equipped there is no reason not to do it with the 16. Given the weight and length of the 16 it can "bob" around at anchor, so if you easily get seasick then make sure the place you chose to anchor is very protected from the wind/waves. The "bobing" at anchor, limited capacity of the porta-potti, and difficulty carrying enough water for 2 people over 4 days (this was an issue the second time I went and my wife came along) were the biggest issues I had with extended cruising in the Apostles with the 16.
