Title: tuning the CP16
Post by: kearns on June 07, 2012, 09:52:02 PM
Friends,

Any advice on tuning the CP-16?  My shrouds and forestay on my MK II are "firm" which is the way I've normally sailed with other boats, but I don't want to place too much strain on the rigging.  My intuition is that tuning on this boat is not going to make much difference in performance, but I would be interested in your thoughts on this.

Many thanks,
Kevin

Hey Kevin:
I have my mast raked just a little forward and like you, the stays snug, with enough slack that I can hook and unhook the fore stay without undue strain and turning the turnbuckle.  Other than that You are absolutely right with your intuition.

I always set mine up with a little forward rake. I believe Hutchins recommends that the leeward shroud be a little loose when heeled, so you're correct, not too tight.

Tuning a CP-16???
I don't know.
As they say,"You can tune a piano but you can't tune a fish."
Actually the hints from NateD and desher6 are plausible.
Not much to do after that.

The best way for a speedy CP-16 'barge' is correct sail settings. Not too tight. Make the best balloon you can?

skip.
