Title: Why did Com Pac Yachts change from center boom main sheet?
Post by: bfelton on May 27, 2012, 08:09:26 PM
Why did Com Pac Yachts switch from center boom main sheet on a traveler to quarter blocks aft?

Thank you in advance,

bfelton,

Might have to ask the "Factory" for the answer to that question.

However, the pros and cons of the two alternative mainsheet arrangements have been discussed at length in past threads. Do a SEARCH for them.

If you're more than just a little curious, it might be possible to temporarily rig (with a little imagination) and try the "other" method on your Sun Cat. I've even tried an old fashioned single line (no blocks) method across the cabintop. Have fun!

Hutchins told me that they moved the main sheet to the transom deck to allow easier entry to the cabin. Maybe so but I find it difficult to handle the main with the bimini down back there. My boom has a connection point where the traveler used to be. Steve
