Title: Dockmaster quote of the week
Post by: wes on May 14, 2012, 07:20:44 PM
From the dockmaster at Northwest Creek Marina in New Bern, NC yesterday:

DM: "We like to think we have just the right proportion of sailboats to powerboats here at our marina."

Me: "What proportion would that be?"

DM: "Practically all sailboats, practically no powerboats."

Ha!

Sounds like a great marina. Sorry I missed Keith's Com-Pac outing. I hope there's another one soon.

It was an excellent marina - a real find. Very sailboat friendly, highly protected area - I slept on board for two nights and never felt the tiniest wake or wave. Nice facilities, very clean and organized, friendly people (but who isn't friendly in NC?). Built for big boats, though. My little 19 looked pretty funny tied up in a 40' slip. I believe we could have fit four Com-Pacs in that single slip if we'd tried.

Boy, it's a buyer's market for slip sales and rentals down here. Tons of ads for reduced prices, free months, etc., etc., from boat owners looking to sell and marinas looking to fill empty spots. Always the same story in a lousy economy - a great time to buy, if you've got $. I just cannot bring myself to put my 19 in the water permanently though. I am too attached to being able to do projects in my driveway on weekends when I'm not sailing. Whenever I try to do one on the water I always end up dropping something expensive into the drink :).
