Title: clr august
Post by: kickingbug1 on April 15, 2012, 09:18:38 AM
past experience tells me that before you know it summer is here and it gone too soon. just a reminder that the clr is a go this year again. as anyone who has attended will tell you ---it was a hoot. the sooner we have a headcount the sooner plans can be finalized

Kickster and Sarah,

You know B and I will be there, so you will have at least two people to race.  I need to call the marina and reserve a slip pretty soon.  We sure hope we get a good showing again this year.  Salty will still have to do the DVD for us right?

C'mon guys and gals lets get a show of hands.

For more information on the event, see last years' post:

http://cpyoa.geekworkshosting.com/forum/index.php?topic=3914.0

Except for the dates, should be the same otherwise.

I'm thinking a nice bucket of Brandy slush will be a good trade for the DVD's. Of course they don't travel well either.

There will be bunches of Brandy Slush available for you to pick up anytime between August 2 and August 6.  Pick-up can be made at West Access Marina in Carlyle, IL  hehe.

(We are really disappointed that you won't be able to make it this year. )

wont be the same with just one mike. buddy we will sure miss you and becky. i think we might have some newbies though. hoping so anyway. maybe this year we will think up some surprizes. mike if you would prefer having the meet and greet elsewhere let me know. not like i have a relative who owns the winery. tell you what why dont you invite the new owner of miss bs haven. you guys could have a com-pac caravan. to all possible attendees----sarah and i will do whatever is necessary to make the weekend  special. any questions just ask. and of course check the link that salty provided

Kick,

I already invited the new owner of our 19, but I think he is too busy sailing her to post anything.  It sounds like they are bonding real well though.  B and I love the winery.  Good food, fun atmosphere and that "Nooner" wine was really good.

We'll have to talk to Hutchins about donating a couple of hats again this year.  I want one of those, but they cost too much for a cheap guy like me.

Let B and I know if there is anything we can do or bring along to help with the event.  The Slushie Mobile is inflated and ready for duty.

The one good thing about Salty not coming is we won't have to pretend we like drinking that tooty-fruity beer he brings!

pending further trouble with my 52 transmission you could bring an extra t5 with you. seriously i think it just needs a main shaft bearing. it should be done for the event. damned thing better be done for my 60th birthday in june (it will be 60 as well). nothing that i can think of for you to bring. more sailors would be good. as for the sissy beer----i have an icebox full of that imported schwill. good pics on the labels though. sarah will be in touch with brenda in regards to the saturday night party. which you have to agree was a blast last year (even with the homeless drunken sailor who tagged along. anything we can do on this end just call. to new attendees-----its worth the trip to meet mike and brenda

I see Bob hasn't chimed in with his expected arrival date.  I'm thinking I scared him off with the dinghy rowing challenge with the high stakes purse.  Conceding Bob?

Mike--I resemble, err, I mean resent that comment about tooty-fruity beer :)  Actually I've given them up in favor of good 'ol Yuengling.  So..hang on to your lifelines...I drink normal beer these days!!!

I invited the local TV news and newspaper to attend the race at high noon.  Since Carlyle is a sleepy town, I figured that would give them something to print.

Sorry to dissappoint you guys.  As luck would have it, I wouldn't of had the time off anyway.  I started a new job in March so vacation is even more limited until I build up seniority.  We'll miss everyone and hope ya'll have a great time!

mike like i said before you and becky will be missed. and miracle of miracles, i finally got the 52 completed. if nothing else it should add to the group photo at the winery. today i drove that old beast 67mph. at least i can keep up with traffic. the greenes and i will pledge to get drunk at least once in your honor

So Steve - do we get to double date in the 52 this year?  I love old pick ups.  I fixed up a 1946 Chevy pick up during high school and B always said she knew who her main competition was.

B and I will bring along a bottle of Lime Bite to share with you in honor of the missing Carpenters.

We sent in our slip reservation for Thursday (Aug 2) to Tuesday (Aug 7).  We plan on driving home on that Tuesday.

It will be good to see you and Sarah again.

Fair winds,

Mike and B

We have been down for a bit here..... Wife hurt her knee. Doing Zumba and bam to the floor she went.
Now she keeps the window open staring out and probably watching the trees flow about knowing that today was a good sailing day.

The 41 ft Hunter went out today, I am sure I could have hitched a ride if I did have to go to ENT doctor for my ears.... but hey, I did put in to have the CLR time off, got that,  and we have a air conditioner sitting in the living room for that occasion that I need to make a hatch for. (we are 2.5 miles from the marina...... but we plan to camp in the boat with the dogs, this ought to be fun. :)  )

Does everyone stay on their boats? or go to hotel?  what exactly happens during this time?

Sorry to hear about the injury.  Heal up fast and get back out sailing.

Brenda and I stay on our boat and I believe Tool Man (and Mrs. Tool Man) stayed on their Eclipse.  The rest of the folks stayed across the street at the motel or at their nearby home.  Two years ago we rented a cottage for a week at Hazlett State Park.  Really nice, but a bit expensive.

It is a blast to have all the boats in the marina.  We sail during the day and socialize in the evenings on the docks.  Bring a lawn chair and some refreshments.  Kick and his much better half go out of their way to make the outing a fun event.  Everything is kept low key and informal which is right up my alley.

Hey Kick!  Debbie and I are HOPING to get down for the Rendesvous.  We haven't been out yet, but hopefully  that'll be remedied soon... this working for a living is rather inconvenient!  Will call for a slip soon!  Regards to Sarah... Luke "Tool Man"

just a note for those thinking of coming to the clr. luke (alias toolman) and his wife debbie are a "hoot" , which i guess holds true for the rest of our past clr sailors. those who have attended the past rendezvous have enriched our lives and our sailing experience. rich, john, mike and brenda, cal and merry, mike and becky, carl and joanie, noble and jane and doug and linda have made august very special. to the new attendees, the people make the event and these people are in my book the best.  wind water and a lot of laughs are in store.

WOW! The time flies when you stay busy.  CLR again!  I just hope my boat will fly around the race course.  Any race handicap points for sailing single handed?  Single handed, one hand on the tiller and one hand on a brandy slushy.  I have been off the sight for a bit but that just means lots of good reading to catch up on.  I just made my reservations at the Mariner's Village.  I have been to Lake Carlyle before and it is a nice lake, facilities, ramps, and the company too.

Glad to hear you will be there again.

Handicap the race!  No chance buddy, you can already sail circles around us.  We will agree to hold at least one brandy slush in our hands as well if that helps.

See ya soon.

Greene,

Thanks for the information.  I need to juggle some other travel plans, but if at all possible, I'll be there.  I've been waiting for 3 years to finally sail a C-16...I sure don't want to miss this opportunity.  I can probably confirm within the next 10 days.
