Title: Have any of you made boom tents for your sun cat?
Post by: bfelton on March 26, 2012, 10:08:37 AM
I am in the process of designing and sewing a boom tent.  Does any one have one on his/her sun cat?  I'm looking for ideas.  So far all I know for sure is that I'll be using Sunbrella and battens.  (I've already purchased the materials.)

Thanks,

Bert Felton

You can see mine here

I use Aluminum shock corded tent poles to form the hoop. There are two zip out side panels for shade or windows. Windows at rear and side.
There is one for sale that I made for another Sun Cat owner at the site above in the classified section.

bfelton,

Here's one made by Rahn Lawton - found it quickly by Googling "Sun Cat Boom Tent"! By the way, you might find the "Catboat" Forum at this web site interesting. A number of us Sun Cat Owners hang out there.

I made that one too, so far I have made three Sun Cat boom tent for various owners. Each one gets a bit better as I find ways to make them stronger and more user friendly. It has over 6 feet of headroom at the companion way. It provides shade and is a lot cooler under the tent. Ports and hatch can be open during rain. Side panels are removable and roll up to provide privacy or shade on the sunny side.
