Title: IDA Rudder
Post by: don l on February 22, 2012, 10:32:27 AM
Our new IDA rudder came in, we are now  looking forward to the different.  Two years ago, replaced sails.  This Com Pac 16 (1981), has been great fun.

Can't wait to hear about your new Ida!

I replaced my sails last season, and surprisingly broke a rusted turnbuckle on the first sail out...

Although the mast came down (nobody was hurt, fortunately), it gave me a weird pleasure that the sails provided significantly more power than the old ones.

Please share your experiences, I've been toying with the idea of an Ida now for awhile.

Yes, we will.  This will be our fifth season.  Love the boat, sails better than we do..

I sailed several times on the original rudder and was greatly impressed with the improvement using the IdaSailor rudder on my 1991 Com-Pac 16.  The IdaSailor website claims are true from my experience.  The boat tacks better, has less weather helm, points better, requires less tiller effort, and has better low speed manueverability.  Not even the smallest buyer's remorse here.
