Title: Black Friday Sail
Post by: sailen69 on November 28, 2011, 02:45:51 PM
I was out sailing on Friday to enjoy the day and close out my sailing season before tucking the boat in for the winter. It was a short and fun season starting in August with the CLR-11.  I am looking forward to a CLR-12 and seeing some of you great Com-Pac sailors!  I was lucky to get in many trips, every other weekend and more through Thanksgiving weekend.  I got in several casual cruses and some heavy weather days as well. Now it is time to clean things up, make those lists of things to do, and read up on this site and other sailing books / articles.  I was feeling sad about making my last trip of the season and blue about hibernating through the winter.  Thanks to Salty 19 putting together that CLR DVD, this web sight, and you people posting, I might make it till spring. I had a big smile on my face when I pulled my boat from the ramp.  All I could think about was how much fun I had in my Com-Pac16.
This was on the Saturday News.  Does anyone know what kind of boat this is?  I am glad this guy is ok and with all respects to him and how things can go wrong in a hurry.

Rich, I watched the video.  Looks like a lot of boats.  Maybe a Catalina?  The print article says the mast got stuck on the bottom.  Been there, done that, in 50 degree water.  Don't want to do it again.  Joanie still freaks out anytime the 19 starts to heel and I don't think she's been in the little boat since.

Steve & Sarah, it was a fantastic surprise when you guys pulled up at the ramp.  I enjoy Lake Carlyle and sailing along with you guys.  It is defiantly worth the trip.  Please let us know when the docks go back in the water.  It is fun to sail along with friends and Com-Pacs at that.  I am looking forward to sailing with you again, and any one else, next year.  I am almost always the only sailboat on Rend Lake.  The docks are in year round, fishermen and pontoon boats keep mostly to the shores and leave the rest of the open lake to me.
Carl, you may not want to show that article to Joanie.  Good to know that you guys got back down for another trip this year.  I may add a clinometer to my boat (for precision racing performance-HA) to dial in more efficient sailing.  It is fun to put the rail in the water depending on the conditions.  I hope to see you guys again next year too.

Hey Rich!

Good to hear you got another sail in for the year!  Yep, always a pleasure to sail with other Compacs at the 'voo.
Even if half of them are a little off-kilter.  I'm including myself and Becky that half!

Did you guys notice the pic on the DVD of Crazycarl hanging off the aft rail?   Joan couldn't bear to look. We laughed our arse off when taking the pic.   That, my friends, is Miss Adventure in action!!
So yep, I had to include that one.  I'll have to post that one sometime because obviously Carl likes being embarrassed

Supposed to snow tonight..bah humbug!!!

Mike,

It's not that I like being embarrassed, I just can't help embarrassing myself!

Joanie and I just finished watching the DVD.  We also laughed out loud at seeing me hanging off the back of a moving boat!

Joanie confesses she wasn't looking away, but searching for something to use to knock me off the boat!

Thanks so much for all your time and effort putting together this wonderful DVD. The music is great and watching the DVD makes us yearn for warmer weather.

When the DVD 1st arrived, I tried it in our ancient DVD player with no luck, so I put it in the computer and made it to the 21 minute mark before the computer died.  That was on a Thursday.  The prior Monday, our microwave died.  So, we just recently went and bought a new microwave, computer, LED tv, and blue ray player.  After reading your post, I tried the blue ray and wah-la!  Now we'll be able to enjoy it whenever the winter blues hit!

We also went out on Black Fri, but here in Eustis, Fl, it was the beginning of the season. Great day for a sail (72 degrees , 16k knot breeze with 24 gusts) with a reef tucked in the main. Another  compac showed up down from Jax. A 16/3 previously named Virginia Rose -- anyone here ever run across this one? Be going out again Sun, Lake Eustis, join us if you can --- Pat
