Title: replacing teak & holly sole - in cp23
Post by: hockeyfool on July 22, 2011, 03:39:12 PM
I have 2 places to replace the teak & holly sole in my 81' ; floor forward of tabernacle/bulkhead and under companionway steps .
Any idea on required thickness of this stuff, also how to lay down and adhere it ?

Our 23' 1985 teak is a veneer glued to plywood - The plywood is screwed into the cabin floor fiberglass around the edges with trim nailed down over those edges into the plywood.  My guess is you could replace with a any type of quality hardwood / mahogany / teak ($$$) or go with veneer over plywood again.  Nothing complicated about replacing this; pull up all the trim around the edges and the main supports for the wall between the main cabin and v-berth.  Keep the water out and polyurethane varnish (8 coats / sanding between each coat)  the daylights out of what you put in there and you are good for another 25 years.

Has anyone ever tried that indestructible hardwood tonger and groove flooring that Bob Velof advertises on 'This Old House?'
That stuff is solid wood and waterproof I think.

skip.
