Do you have a  shore power input on your boat? If so, put in a permanently mounted unit.  I have a Guest 2610A with two separate five amp outputs to keep the batteries independent.  That is somewhat important, particularly if you are going to have batteries of different vintages.  I've read an old one will drag a new one down.  Additionally, it will not overcharge or boil over your batteries.  It has been a great, trouble free charger.  Mine is mounted on the starboard cockpit locker forward bulkhead just over the battery bank.

I installed the same Guest 10 amp (5 x 2) charger last year on the Horizon. Has worked flawlessly. Shop around - you can find it a lot cheaper than at West Marine, and WM will match the price.

Since I am a new CP16 owner and a novice sailor, I've been a. reading a lot, and b. buying a lot.

I purchased a Attwood Marine  Water Resistant/Onboard battery charger for $19.95. You can get specs at www.attwoodmarine.com.

I went to the Attwood site and this item wasn't listed. However, it is available all over the place. Attwood lists all the retail outlets on their site. Prices seem to vary dramatically for the same item. I paid $19.95 for mine from Walmart. I've seen it for over $50.00 elsewhere. Google: Attwood 11900-4 Onboard Marine Battery Charger.
