Post by: Northface25 on July 03, 2011, 11:58:15 AM
I just wanted to say hello to everyone.  Im new to this site and new to sailing, by new to sailing I mean I dont own a boat and never been sailing.  I plan on buying a boat (CP-16) soon, thats how I found this great site.  Ive been reading on CPYOA and cant wait to get a CP-16

I have a million questions but Im going to search the forum before I start asking a bunch of questions that have been asked. Anyway hello and Im glad I found this site.

PS I live in Ormond Beach, FL

Find another 'seasoned' sailor, preferably one that sails the CP-16 and go out on his boat. Sit there like a bump on a log and watch. If offered, take command. Then invite that sailor for a shake down cruse on your newly acquired CP-16...that will answer a million questions.

My first ride on a CP-19 was on Peanut Butter, in a storm with waves so high I could not see over the wind swept foaming tops. I had bought my boat Comfort & Joy but had not yet taken her out yet. I'm a believer in these stout little boats.
Welcome aboard.

Howdy and welcome, North:
Obviously you do not value your reputation if you are taking up with this fine bunch of shaninganizing water rats! Jk, of course. Keep us posted on your boat searching adventures. I think that CP 16's come up for sale quite often so I know you'll find one.

i sailed a c16 for years. a good boat to single hand where putting the mast up and down isnt a 2 person job.
my 6'3" friend and i could a week at a time living aboard down in the florida keys and not feel much cramped.

a fixed boarding ladder much improves safety.  a 2hp engine is enough.  being able to sleep inside or in the cockpit is a blessing.

I emailed the guy to see if he will email me some detailed pics.

He wants 3,200 for his 1983 Compac 16 Sailboat, is that a good price?  Any thoguhts?  Thanks

if the fiberglass is in good shape I would say so. I don't think they added the bow-sprit yet in '83. It's got a roller furling which is a plus! and a boarding ladder. $3,200 is fair if it is in good shape.

If you just want a sailboat and don't care about looks, you can find a similar year for around $1,000. It won't "look" as good but will sail the same.
