Is the plate that Hutchins makes the rudder out of anodized? I'm trying to clean mine up, and the way I plan to do it depends on the answer.

I don't know for sure but I don't think it's anodized. During my rudder project last winter, I removed all existing paint down to bare aluminum by just sanding and some light grinding. But, like I said, I can't say for sure that the newer ones aren't anodized. Mine is a 1985.

I don't think it is anodized. It's just a cheap-O-aluminum casting.

Probably from melted down old automotive alternators.

Thanks. I should clarify, though, I'm talking about the rudder itself, not the casting that it and the tiller attach to. Is that what y'all are talking about, too?

I believe it is plain old 6061-T6 aluminum plate.

I'll go with that. I cut mine up and welded it into a battery tray bottom on the 1930 Ford Model 'A'.
