Title: cockpit seat height on various Com-Pac's
Post by: Les on April 12, 2011, 07:10:30 PM
I was quite uncomfortable on an O'Day Daysailer II and was wondering what the seat height (without cushions) from the cockpit sole is for the following boats:

- CP 16/3 or CP16/CL

- CP 19/3 or CVP19/XL

- Suncat with cabin

- CP 23/3 or CP23/4

Thanks everyone!

Les,

I measured 11" on my 2007 Suncat.

Good idea, Glenn! What is the Eclipse seat height?

Makes  no difference if it's an XL or not. Or an MkII or any other . The hull and deck [vertical dimension of the cockpit remain the same length].

But I can't measure my vertical depth since the boat is in winter storage.

The 23 I,II,III,IV are all the same, there have been no mold changes over the years, so if you get one you have them all.  I will say that my 23/IV is quite comfortable.  Will measure next time I'm up at the lake, probably sometime in the next week.

The seat height on the Eclipse is 10 and 1/4 inches.

Glenn, thanks for the input.

How comfortable is the seat & seat back?

The Eclipse certainly looks good.

Les,

I bought the Eclipse Cushions (about 2 inch thick) which really helps with the comfort level. I have neck, back and shoulder problems so I hurt all the time it seems!

The vertical back area of the seat is a bit uncomfortable for me some times and I use a small cushion for a back support which helps too.

At the last Annapolis Sailboat show, I finally pryed open my wallet and sprung for the Sport-a-Seat. I don't really have any back problems but at 58 and sitting sorta sideways like we do while looking forward and holding a tiller, I do develope some pain after a long period of time.
This seat is great! I gives great back support, is built very well and is fully adjustable. Heck, I even brought it home this winter to use in the living room while spending too much time in front of the tube. Check it out at: http://www.sportaseat.com/
At the show, they had thier frame and the cheap wM chinese-made knockoff. Do yourself a favor: if you're tempted by the lower WM price, don't do it. In this case, springing for a few more clams and getting the real deal is well worth it.
No, I get no $ endorsements...this is just a great product. Sorry for the apparent hijack but back pain is no fun!

I DO have a  bad back and think that might be just the ticket.  Sailing yesterday, trying to arrange throwable pfd's to make a seat as soon as I leaned forward the backrest went over the side and I had a singlehanded tack and retrieve operation.  I have cockpit cushions that came with the boat, and they are nice, but restrict access to the cockpit lockers when you have a crowd and I'm thinking seriously about mid boom sheeting and they would limit the effective traveler track length on the bridge deck. Plus the Admiral and I like to kayak and they would probably work for that too.

Do they absorb water or do they dry quickly when doused?

Thank's for the hijack

It varies slightly in my '83 CP16/1.  I have 9 inches from bare sole to bare set height.
