I just wanted to take a few moments and say hello and thank you for this board. This week I purchased a 1977 Com-Pac 16. When I was MUCH younger our family owned a 78 16 which I at first cursed for being slow (my previous experience was on catamarans) but the 16 soon grew on me. I attempted every way that I could think of to tip her and she wouldn't go over, even when running a 200% Genoa in heavy winds! The strength of her hull impressed me as well. It pained me when her hull got damaged thanks to a shifty realtor and I had to say goodbye to my old friend.
This week I was excited when I saw another 16 show up in my local Craigslist and soon made contact with her owner. After some inspection, there is some water damage on her inside and the rudder is severely corroded but the rest of the boat and trailer are more then worth the $800 that I bought her for. Thank you again and I hope that I can learn even more about these fine boats from this site and other owners.
brian, in the past we have always had fast boats but speed is relative under sail and when we hit 5.9 knots last summer we were howling. our 16 is without a doubt the best sailboat we have ever had and the best investment i have ever made. good luck with yours.

Thank you all for the welcomes. The first stage of my project begins this weekend when I get out the bleach and water and turn the boat from the nice green shade it is now back to it's original white.

Try to remember, as you're scrubbing and lavishing TLC on your beloved boat, that you're spending quality time with her. And furthermore, that it's all part of that "Messing about in boats" that, I'm afraid, has us all hooked!

The boat already is named and I kinda like it so it will stick. "Lil Critter" I am in the Florida Panhandle and usually sail in any of the local bays in the Pensacola area.

You should consider the B.E.E.R cruise held the first weekend in June. Three night cruise in your home sailing ground. I did it last year, had a blast and will return this year to do it again.

Not bad for $800. Two full sets of working sails, 1 Genoa, 1 Hobie 14 Sail, Bimini Top and cockpit cushions.

It's customary for new members to offer to wax the boats of us old timers as a gesture of good will. My 23 will be rolling into your driveway any day now...feel free to use any wax you want although I prefer 3M liquid. Thanks in advance. Your 16 looks so great that I know my 23 is in good hands.

If you park that in my driveway you MIGHT not get it back. ;) Then again I've had a 23 foot Starwind and a 21 foot Aquarius, lot of work if I just want to take a boat out so it might be safe.
