My 23/3 has been in the water for many years and now needs a thorough restoration.  Here is a "before" picture.(http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l594/CPYOA/DSC02174.jpg)

Low tide!  Great way to check the bottom.  It's in remarkably good shape for a boat that hasn't been fully out of the water in a number of years.  The water here is brackish so there aren't that many barnacles.

Bottom paint in remarkably good shape for a boat that hasn't been fully out of the water in a number of years.  The water here is brackish so there aren't that many barnacles.  When I pull the boat out and let it dry out for a number of months, I will barrier coat it along with new bottom paint.

suprised it didn't stay up on it's keel.

Like this!!!

Your boat looks great!!! You got me thinking I might replace my hatch w/ a window. Is that original? Mine is fiberglass.

Also, I've seen the anti slip before and didn't really like it, but it looks great on your boat!

Hey US:
What year is your 23? Looks like you have quite a tidal range where you live.

My 23/3 is a 1993 model.  I'm the second owner.  The original owner was my good friends father, but he passed away in 1997.  The boat was used from time to time by family members but hasn't been used regularly in years.  There is rainwater damage inside so I'll be replacing about 50% of the interior plywood, including the teak and holly sole.  Right now the boat is in a small town north of Clearwater, Florida.  In fact, the boat is about 15 minutes north of the Hutchins factory.  I'm able to swing by there for parts anytime I need them and they are really helpful with all of my questions.  There is quite a tidal range where the boat is as you can see.  The non-skid really cleaned up nicely.

I'm in Palm Harbor and sail St. Joesph Sound quite often on my 19. That pic is out at Anclote Key. Looks like you are in the canal just north on Dunedin and south of the Honeymoon Island causeway.

Let me know if you ever need a hand with the boat. I'm thinking about replacing the plywood on the inside of my 19 also. THese is some water damage from the previous owner as well.

Billy,
Your pretty close on the location.  The boat is in Crystal Beach, and I'm sure it's sailed your waters many times!  It would be great to get help with the boat going forward; I'll take you up on that.  I'd be happy to help you with yours as well.  I just had the outboard fixed and I have the mainsail at Sailcare for repair.  There was enough moisture in my boat that I had to throw out the quarter berth cushions.  Do you know of anybody in the area who could lend a trailer for the 23?  I'd like to move the boat to a boat yard and let it dry out.  The standing and running rigging will need some attention, but they aren't too bad.

I'm not sure if  it will work but I have a trailer for my 19 you can use. Just a single axle and I'm sure the bunks will need to be adjusted though. Does anyone know if this is possible. I do know that there is about 3 or 4 compac 23s at the marina next to Ozona Blue. Don't know any of the owners though. You could call Homeport marina and see if they could help you out.

Wow!
The pressure washer did a pretty good job..............

Can the pressure washer clean the bottom of your hull ?

I think you have the right Idea on putting her on a trailer to dry out and it would be easier to work on her as well I would think..

Once it's out of the water, I plan to use the pressure washer on the bottom as well.  If need be, I'll have it media blasted to really clean it.  Epoxy barrier coat and good bottom paint to follow.

Be careful with the power blaster - a friend of mine did that on his 32 Morgan and blasted the bedding compound out enough to cause serious water damage before we discovered it.  Matt

Thanks for the advice on the power washer Matt.  I'll make sure to be careful.  By the way, I'm not sure what the "Karma" is below our avatar, but I accidentally clicked on yours and I'm not sure what it did.

Nice restoration! She's worth it and hope you really enjoy her.

Man that's some power washer, not only does it take away mold but it also RESTORES and VARNISHES TEAK!
Boy, that would have saved me a lot of time last year. :) What model is that!!??

Oh, that Karma thing doesn't mean much.  Click "Good" to tip your hat to someone for a helpful comment or whatever you see fit as good, "tsk tsk" to mean..well...tsk tsk!

When you first got her- i thought "Oh man here we go again" but the pressure washer really cleaned up the outside. Now for the inside....may be a bit tougher but we will be with you all the way!

The inside is a water-damaged basket case.  I'll be over at Hutchins frequently for new wood; thank God they're on the way to the boat for me!  I'll take "before" pictures next time I'm up at the boat.  Compared to the inside, the outside was a piece of cake...

Semper Fi captain!
Hey, I've just signed a contract to sell my house here in NC and plan to move to Dunedin.  My little ship sits on her trailer now and I need to find a place to store her while I get relocated.  I'm looking for cheap or free storage, in or out of the water.  If I can find a good place to anchor her, you can use my trailer for a while to work on your boat.
If you'd like to consider this let me know.  And, if anyone knows of somewhere I can put my boat until I get moved, please let me know.

Sailing South Soon!

Well, too much time unattended at the dock has now caused me to have to do some fiberglass repair.  During some recent nasty weather, the boat came too close to the dock and the aft starboard stantion caught the underside of the dock and punched a hole in the deck!  Very strong stantion!!!!  I'll post pictures shortly.  The fiberglass is damaged from the hull/deck joint to about 3 inches inboard of the rub rail.  It doesn't look like the hull is damaged in any way.  Has anyone had to do a repair like this?  I guess I'll take the time to inspect the whole hull/deck joint because I'll need a new rub rail anyway.

Well, Seute Deern is finally out of the water and onto a trailer for her long restoration.  Here are a couple of photos of her on the trailer:

Here is the deck damage that I mentioned in an earlier post; it is to the area around the aft starboard stanchion:

If anyone has done repairs to this area, I'd appreciate any light you can shed on the subject.

Sure would've been nice if the stanchion broke away but it should be strong...it's a lifeline! Although I do not have any experience in this type of repair, I'm sure there are some guys here who can and will steer you throught it. Best,

Well, the original owner just gave me a few pictures of Seute Deern under construction in the fall of 1992.  Shiny portholes and perfect gel-coat.  Two of the pictures show the hull before the deck was dropped on.  I was very happy to get these photos.

Along with photos, the original owner just gave me the invoice from the factory and I was pleasantly surprised that it left the factory with an epoxy barrier coat under the "Pacific Blue" bottom paint (480.00 option).  No wonder the hull looked so good after being in the water for a number of years.

The original owners lived less than 30 minutes away from Hutchins so they were there quite often watching the boat being built.

Time to de-clutter and power wash.  This stuff adds a lot of weight to the boat.

What you're looking at is a lot of water damage inside.  At low tide, the boat would lay over on her starboard side and over time water got in.  You can see how high it went...this will be fixed!

After a good power washing.  I plan on painting her in navy blue Awl Grip.  I did a lot of scraping on that bottom; the boat was in the water for about 8 years.

Bob,
Great to hear from you.  That trailer saved this boat!  It's allowed me to work on her as my time allows, moving her between the storage yard and my home.  Thanks again.

I got a pleasant surprise as I cleaned the boat out.  Tucked away inside was a boom tent that had been made for the boat.  Except for some dirt, which cleaned up easily, it was in almost new condition.
