Title: More on hull numbers and CAPSIZE FORMULA.

This horse is dead. However for those who want to figure out what all those funny numbers mean on your transom here we go... Comfort and Joy registration is...

                             ...HUTC 00588 B 696...so

ABV=Mfg=HUTC [Hutchins boat mfg.]
00588=Hull #
B=Sept
696=06-96 or Sept 06-1996. Date of mfg.

A=Aug. B=Sept. C=Oct. D=Nov. E=Dec. F=Jan. G=Feb. H=March. I=April. J=May. K=June. L=July.

Additionally: Com-Pac 19XL's CAPSIZE FORMULA:

From the Annapolis Book of Seamanship: "First divide the boat's total weight in pounds by 64 to find volume in cubic foot in salt water. Second, find the cube root of that figure. Third, divide the result into the boat's beam. If the result is less than 2, then the boat is relatively safe from capsizing and remaining upside down. If greater than 2, she is relitively vulnerable. The higher the number, the more vulnerable she is. This is a guideline, not an absolute test, for estimating a boat's ability to recover from a capsize." So...Com-Pac 19's

2000 lb divided by 64=31.25
31.25 Cubed =5.5901699.
Take 5.5901699 and divide into...
7 foot 0 inch beam,
and we have 1.252198 [less than 2].
You have to work pretty hard to sink his boat :wink:

skip.     Opps! I guess I can't "syffer" the cubic root. What did I do? Use the square root? Thank you for the fix.

unless I'm using the wrong calculator, your cube root is 3.149802626 which makes the final number: 2.222.

Still better than the 2.5807 for the CP-16

There is a nice calulator on this website, (Thanks to Jobst Vandrey).
I think he now has a CP-16 as I recall reading somewhere.

The capsize screening ratio for the CP-16 on his site is 2.05

and for the CP-19 is 2.07 and ratios below 2 are suggested for offshore

cruising.........
