Title: K.I.S.S. - Poor Man Lazy Jacks
Post by: Caboose on September 28, 2010, 01:31:46 PM
Welcome to another installment of the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) way of life.

Take jib halyard aft of port side shrouds, wrap/tie around boom approx. mid-boom.
Take spinaker (or second jib) halyard aft of starboard shrouds, and do same as jib halyard.

Make both halyards fast, but with some slack in them.
Lower main. Notice how your Poor Man Lazy Jacks keeps the main on top of boom and semi-neat.
Works with or without topping lift/boomkicker.
Works best with loose-footed or mains with slugs on foot.
May need to modify for those with boltrope mains by attaching bails to boom.

After properly flaking/folding/rolling/removing main, return jib and spin halyards to proper place.
This KISS idea also works in reverse when raising main.

Feel free to modify/change as needed, but I do own the idea.
Please donate by helping to convert a powerboater to the joys of sailing.

Caboose:
That's great! Keep those simple ideas coming...simple and cheap; does it get any better than this? I already have a plan stewing around in my grey matter to improve on your idea. Any royalties will be sent your way.

That is inventive Caboose. I will try it and tell you what I think.
