Hi Everyone!
Tim Kramer here from Poplar Grove, Illinois.
I am the lucky new owner of a 1999 Compac 16 that is yet unnamed. I live on a small (250 acre) private lake but spend a lot of time in Northern Michigan at our place on the west arm of Grand Traverse Bay.
I've been sailing for 30 years +-. Started with my dad's AMF Catfish, graduated to a Super Sunfish and have spent a lot of time with Hobie 14s, 16s, and 18s.
I am SO looking forward to launching my new 16 this weekend! I've been reading the forum for a number of weeks now and thank you all so much for all of the information I "leveraged" to help me make my decision.
I look forward to a long relationship with Compac and learning even more from you old salts!
Cheers!
Hi Tim and welcome. Please feel free to post stories of your sailing adventures here at the site.
I never tried a super sunfish although my father in law has a mast and sail in his backyard. Is there anything else different about the super?

Hey, Bob...
The Supersunfish we have is a 1978 model. The main differences is that its not a lateen rig, but a a more conventional single sail marconi (?) rig with similar sail controls to a Laser; outhaul, downhaul, boom vang, and the mainsheet is on a traveler. Really, a Laser with a Sunfish hull. In fact, the hull is exactly the same as a standard Sunfish. We keep a sunfish rig ready to go for those who don't want or know how to rig the Super Sunfish. It's a blast. I've spent hundreds of hours criss-crossing the west bay on that little boat.
