Would anyone know the PHRF rating for the Com-Pac 35?
I was recently assigned a rating of 159 and thought it to be way low. There was a Hylas 49 witha rating of 124. Managed to beat him anyway pure time but this was due to bad luck on his part.

I just purchased a CP35 last fall. Wayzata Yacht Club here said they had a couple base PHRF ratings from Florida of 147. They said include a 135% largest genoa, 2 blade fixed prop, non-flying headsail, everything else standard, probably be around 183. Include a cruising assymetric - drops to 168-171 or so.

Thanks much for your feedback. I was given a rating by the Caribbean 1500 of 159 and thought at the time that it was too low only to find out two weeks ago that a Hylas 49 that I beat by 2 minutes on a 4hr race had a PHRF rating of 124. Crazy.
If you're interested in sharing CP35 tidbits I would be delighted to share my experience with you.
My CP 35 "Alpha Crucis" was semi custom built in Aug 2003 and I have been very please although there are lingering leaking issues. The boat was commisioned in Deltaville Va and I sailed it to the Annapolis Boat show as part of a deal I had with the Hutchins' bros and the dealer. It worked out pretty well. Then I took it down to its permanent mooring in Great Crux Bay St. John USVI in the Caribbean 1500 race.

I am not sure about the handi cap, but I am extremely jealous of your location. I just spent 9 days cruising St. John on an IP 45 and had the time of my life.
Are you going to enter the 1500 this year? If so and you need crew, I would be more than happy to join in. I do not have any offshore experience, but am dying for the time.

I have a 35 that is currantly be refitted for off shore cruising, i'm headed to Bermuda in June and the Virgin Island and points beyond this November. Can't help on the rating issue; to you and any other 35 owners out there I'm interested in moving up to a 35 from our current 27/2. Would love to hear your experiences with the 35 (including the leaking issue). How did you equip? What did you add to stock and what do you wish you'd added or left off? How did the boat fare on the trip down to St. John?

We've spent half a summer with our new (to us) CP 35. Ours was built in 1997 and has been used for inland lake sailing thus far. Over all I'd have to say we're quite happy with the boat. One of the things I'm most impressed with is it's stability in heavier air. We've been out when it was gusting to 40 plus and the boat was stable and sturdy. While others were in survival mode, we were having a blast. Get the boat on a broad reach in heavy air and it flies. It will really load up with weather helm if you push it hard without shortening sail, however. It doesn't appear to like beating while heeling at 30 degrees. Fortunately we haven't had much trouble with any leaks. Had a couple issues early on but no further problems once resolved. Really enjoying it's many ammenities.
Guys, this is turning into a great discussion. You might want to include Richard Crisler who frequents the other Com-Pac forum more frequently. He resides at Coconut Grove in Miami and not only teaches for the USSailing Ass. he also owns cp35. Richard has had some bad luck as his "Angel" was badly damaged by Katrina, but Richard is a wonderful friend to all who sail and might have great insight into your questions.

I own Hull 14 from 1998. It's stock. The only change I made that affects my PHRF rating is moving to a three-bladed propeller. The rating I have from NC PHRF is 165 Base and 168 Sail.
